There are two very different types of Molting.
The most important molting are of the Flight Feathers. That molting is symmetrically with the same or near by feather of each Wing is molted very near each other (within days). When Wing Feathers are Molted, rarely will a Tail Feather be molted.
The other molt is that of the body feathers. This molt is common during specific times of year, normally driven by changes in the seasons. Depending of what the weather is doing these molts can be from very light to 'I think my Parrot blew-up!' This is commonly a combination of Body Feathers and those tiny white feathers that with our Amazons can look like a snow storm!
A Parrot that is ill or stressed will near halt the loss of Body Feathers and limit the loss of Flight Feathers.
