Green cheek conure
I have had a female green cheek since she was very young. For a couple of months now whatever the reason she will take food from my hand but she will not step up for me and literally backs away. To make it clear I have no different clothes I don't have a new hairstyle because I don't have any hair anyway. I just wish I knew what to do. She just isn't interested any longer. Her feathers look good she plays she eats well she drinks fine she poops regular your guess is as good as mine. If anybody has got an idea I'm certainly open to listen please help me if you can.

I've only read about this happening once before. And that was much more severe, where the parrot was totally scared of his person of many decades. SLowly over many months, almost a year, the owner got back into mostly good graces again. Personally, I would have a thorough medical check up for yourself, as parrots see in different spectrums then we do. He might be seeing something in your physical make up thats not apparent to you. Dogs have been used to sniff out cancer, with their super highly developed smellers. Not saying this is the same but hey its one more thing to check off the list of causes.

We have gotten along famously for 14 years. She won't even go to my wife so I doubt there's any health problems associated with both of us. I am just totally stumped.

I had a similar problem with my female green cheek.. over about a week , every day she seemed to get more afraid of my hands until she completely wouldn't go near them. It took about 3 months to get close to what we had b4 and still acts a little scared of hands . No problem with sitting on my shoulders arms chest or legs

Parrots are so weird! My 40-year-old has had numerous abrupt changes in behavior. One of my pet theories is that he has dreams/nightmares, wakes up and doesn't know dreams from reality, and............... voila! He changes.

I guess we just gotta love 'em. Right? :)

Some birds are just funny about hands. I have a two year old female budgie, Rocky, that I hand raised from an egg and not long after she weaned she decided she hated hands. Very strange considering how much my hands were involved in raising her and that two other budgies I hand raised later on have no problem with hands. Rocky bites all hands very hard (for a budgie) but loves our heads and other body part perches. I don't think she was traumatized by hands. I don't think she's scared of them because she is absolutely fearless about everything. She just hates them. No idea why.
