For those who read my "1 hates me, 1 likes me, and 1 ignores me", I have a random, "still can't fathom" update about Azul. :blue:

**sorry it's a long read :p
I visited the store tonight so my friend could see her blue and gold macaw, Mac, that lives there on the weekdays. So while she is seeing her bird, I walked around to give others attention. Over on the very tall stand I saw "Priella" (or so I thought) She is the Hyacinth that usually sits atop there. Right when I came up to the stand "Priella" came down quickly to my level and I thought "she" just wanted to hang out on my arm for a minute. "She" made an attempt to "bite me" but it was more to scare me and got quickly on my arm before I could take it away...my friend tells me "That isn't Priella"...crap  once again I do the stupid thing and show fear and call out to get Azul (ya, I finally realized it :p) off me. Needless to say, once he was off me my heart beat was off the charts for a lil bit.

My friend made a good point afterwards, if he really hated me or wanted to hurt me, he had the perfect chance and did not. (no I didn't get hurt :) phew!) He isn't clipped either, and there were other times he could have flown on top of me to hurt me. So now I am wondering what are his real feelings regarding me? For 1 second when on my arm Azul didn't do anything. My friend says he is just being the typical macaw and is having fun taunting me :p do you guys agree to that as well? Is he just having fun being a jerk but not meaning to cause physical pain?

...I would also like to add how smart he is, cause he imated how Priella comes to see me so well that I didn't think it was him :09:

P.S. I'm going back tomorrow morning to volunteer, oh boy lol

Sometimes birds bite because of misplaced anger or fear. They may be with you, but bite you because you are the closest to them. Or because you are not doing what they think you should, and want to get your attention quick. Maybe Azul likes you, and senses your fear, and doesn't understand why you're acting that way. And so, he's trying to say, "Hey! What's your problem?" Though, since he's bitten you before, proceed with caution. Today may also be an odd moment of faked trust.

lol there sneakiness are so endearing :)

showing fear is not always a bad thing, as by doing so the bird does not feel it needs to push its point, unless you have one thats a natural bully,

i think azul is slowly accepting you, you may never be best of friends, but its a start, but take care not to get over confidant, as during me an nuts period of settling in together she attacked me out of the blue a few times

LOL... I think I would be pretty scared if a Macaw I didnt know stepped onto me!! I think there beaks are terrifying.. Beautiful to look at, but all the same I have a great fear of Macaws :(

Macaws do play jokes and have a sense of humor that other parrots don't seem to have (or not quite as much as the macaws). They will bluff to make you jump, then laugh hysterically and do it again. KBEquine's new GW will knock the amazon off the cage top then yell, "Are you ok? What happened?" And when she comes running he will blame Merlin (who used to be their roommate). She finally told him Merlin isn't here and her Grey is Gilbert; now he's blaming "Bert".

Remember we wondered if Azul might think you were a child and I said he may figure out by your behavior that you aren't? Maybe he figured it out.

Or maybe he said, hey it's the lady that feeds me nuts! Wow, I'm happy to see her!

But, it definitely doesn't sound like he wanted to attack you. It sounds like he is making friends. Next time you see him, I would walk up confidently and see if he wants to be on your arm again. Obviously don't hold him near your face, just in case, but that can be true with any bird.

Sounds like progress to me though with a beak that size I would be cautious. Maybe he was hoping you had some Brazil nuts in your pocket?

It is crazy though how he imitated the other one so exactly, maybe he wanted to see why she likes you so much?

OMG Roxynoodle , The GW macaw stories have me rolling...lolol.
I cant stop laughing about it , that is just to funny :D:D

GWs are my favorite birds. Every one of them I've met has been a riot. I nearly bought one that kept going, "Boo!" and jumping at me, then laughing. Then it would also say, "Come here!" and bluff at me again. Then we were sticking our tongues out at each other and other silly antics. Next thing I knew it seemed like every single person in Pet Supplies Plus that day was gathered around us in a big circle, watching.

So, yes, macaws like to play jokes!
