Would you allow someone like me to adopt your bird?

I don't necessarily agree...There are points to be made for each.

Fred was a rehome, and he's marvellous! If you get a baby, the bird won't have bad habits that you have to reteach, but...the personality won't be so established. You'll have the "maturity issues" with a baby...

I'd go meet the bird. See how he reacts to you, and you to him. You can't get scammed if you don't allow it. Maybe a vet check before purchase, and no money changing hands until the bird changes hands. Basic common sense........

Is the bird for sale very much less expensive than the baby?

Mh you make a good point, Sharon.
This bird is actually more expensive than the baby - the baby I was gonna get is a Blue Front and they're normally cheaper and this one is a Yellow Crown which are usually more expensive. They usually cost $3000 here (from a breeder), but this one is going for $2500 with all his accessories, cage etc. The blue-front would be $2000.

I wouldn't mind the "maturity issues", as mum pointed out, raising it from a baby would mean that I can raise it and train it just how I want, and as you said, there'll be no bad behaviours or behaviours I don't like that I'd have to "fix"

I just joined the forum as i'm interested in this topic ... As i know of the parrot looking for a new home ...

I don't think i'll ever get my head around someone with no experience in these species of parrots wanting to buy and hand raised their own ..

It's unethical on the breeders part to be selling unweaned parrots and if you have never had any experience in doing so you could even up with a very costly mistake ..

Also i don't believe that amazon parrots are for people with little experience in parrots ...

I know of at least 2 breeders in Australia that will not sell Blue Fronted Amazons are companion parrots ...

Even though Amazons seem to be very popular pets in the U.S i believe there is a huge amount that have trouble living with them ...

And seeing that Eclectus, Galah's and even Alexandrines parrots aren't getting a look in anymore .. i'm surprised the next step is an amazon ..

I'd be doing alot more work to find out about Amazons before buying one and I'd be even more of where the bird is coming from if you are buying it unweaned ...

Good luck with your purchase!!!

This post is somewhat disturbing to me. It seems to have blowen out of context. If i was the owner of this Amazon & reading this post I would be very upset. Having rehomed a number of Parrots because the owner had to leave the country or passed away or for any number of reasons does not make it a scam or the person selling their treasured pet is a terrible person. By the sound of the price it is very reasonable for Australia. The bird alone is worth $2500 here. So to get a whole set up for that price is a bargain.

This post has started off as someone wanting to buy a Parrot in need of a home to some sort of scam. By the way there are 3 sides to a story Yours, Mine & then there is the Truth. We are only seeing one side here.

I also have to say the older Parrots i have rehomed have been an absolute joy to have around & if they have had a good start by the previous owner all the hard work has been done.

That said, to answer the original question posted by Alienation. No i would not sell my bird to a person like you. Sorry my dear but you haven't convinced me that you are worthy of being the owner of an Amazon.
