This is Blue. He was adopted from a shelter. He’s about 22 years old. I’m his 4th owner. His very first owner put him in a basement (dark) hoping it would make him quiet. Which doesn’t work… so it lead up to the owner hitting Blue with a broom when he screamed, and he ended up breaking his wing. He’s actually a very sweet bird. I was provided the very last owners email. She wanted to keep in contact with Blue. I plan on emailing her to find out more about his past. It sounds like she is going through a divorce. She had 4 Ekkie’s, and Blue. She couldn’t take them all with her as she was moving. So Blue went a shelter, along with one of the Ekkie’s. Now he’s with me.

Now he’s with me.
And he couldn't be in better hands. I'm so sorry for everything he went through, that's so heartbreaking, but I'm happy for him because he's in the best place now that he could possibly be 💝

Awwwwww, congratulations! Welcome to the flock, Blue! Oh my goodness, he's gorgeous! I'm so excited to hear more about him as he settles into your family. ❤️

Big Parrots can either be standoffish or really lovey, especially those than have been abused. Building Trust is critical at this point as at some point, he may begin pushing to see what he can get away with. No assurance as to which you may see. But, Love fully, but remember to Trust, but verify!

Idiots as defined by past owners are real, but a previously abused Big Parrot can be a handful.
Remember that these honeymoon periods are very important to set a trust in place!

Big Parrots can bite by accident, it is your responsibility to identify, which it was!

Enjoy! They can and want to be Lovers! Give him the comfort to be that Parrot!

It’s just strange watching him break through all nuts within seconds. None of my other parrots can do this. His claws leave indents in my arms when he just sits on my arm. He’s so strong!

I have contacted Blue’s previous owner by email about a week ago. So far we’ve heard nothing back. I was looking for his leg band, and previous vet records if there are any. I’m setting up an appointment with my vet.

This is his back story from the shelter. They did inform me that he broke his wing when he was hit by a broom. Nico has a broken wing as well but it doesn’t appear to bother Nico. Blue seems really bothered by his broken wing. He sticks it out a lot, and rests it on perches. I’m curious on what his options are if any.

If I even lift my hand at all he immediately reacts (ducks, or try’s to hide). He’s scared of everything. It’s pretty obvious that he was hit.

Thank goodness that life is in his past, and he has a wonderful home with you! ❤️

Oh my heart broke at the idea of him being hit by a broom and being hit!! Thank God you found him, he's going to have a wonderful life with you, even if he doesn't know it just yet!

Wow! What a beauty! Im so glad he ended up with you. How is your ekkie reacting to him? Ive always wanted a macaw but my ekkie is very sensitive and i was worried the noise from a macaw would stress her out. Please keep us updated on his progress. He is in good hands now :)

It breaks my heart to read about animal abuse. Thank you for loving him. I am confident that with patience, love and time he will learn to trust you. I speak from my own experience when I say the love and trust of a macaw is a truly magical thing.

Nico has done fine with Blue so far. I haven’t seen any more feather plucking, or behaviors out of him. He is actually eating his chop in the morning with Blue. They always eat together. I train with both of them on their stands. Blue does scream bloody murder if I take Nico out of their shared room, and he isn’t within eye site. We are working through this.

I got to meet a beautiful male Ekkie at the shelter. I wanted him. He unfortunately isn’t up for adoption. The Ekkie that is available for adoption only likes men. I took photos of the beak & nails so I know when Nico is getting over grown. This is a red sided Ekkie. Nico is a Solomon. Now that I’ve been around the different types of Ekkie’s you really can see the difference in size & coloration.
