Horrible, horrible, horrible.
We have to protect native species, I GUESS but Good Glory, at what price???
Just please, please, don't let your pets escape!

Patagonians are banned in New Jersey, because it's thought that if escaped their extreme climate tolerance would make them into viable breeding populations.

Anyway... heartbreaking. Do we shoot feral cats and dogs??
I give up.

The parrots here in So. Cal. Arenā€™t invasive just not native.
They donā€™t compete for food or nesting locations with native birds.

Mild climate and humans planting fruit trees and bird feeders. Parrots donā€™t dig for worms šŸ›
Plus there native intelligence makes them very adaptable.
I think if there is any reason behind this horribleā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.
I think it would be noise.
I hope they catch the person doing this.

This is so awful, it's scary to think of what kind of person would do this. I hope they're caught as well, and that the penalty is stiff enough that anyone else like this thinks twice.

This is shocking... I have no words. Whoever did this must be a terrible person.

Itā€™s still going on.
Here is an update to this tragic event.

Wes, I'm so glad that you're continuing to get the word out. I will never understand this kind of cruelty, which is probably a good thing.
Do you know what rescue they mentioned that takes in 200 of these birds each year? It may be a good idea to list them in the Rescue forum.

I believe itā€™s in the San Diego area.
The closest rescue to me is near Santa Barbra but thatā€™s not very close (wish it was).

I donā€™t know if itā€™s still true.
But because the parrots are not native to California they are not ā€œprotected ā€œ the way native birds are.
Cruelty against animals would still apply but just cuz the birds are ā€œendangeredā€ in their native habitat doesnā€™t make it a special crime.
It breaks my heart ā¤ļø to see and read about this.

The more awareness of the problem, maybe someone will see something.
