Why you should rescue or adopt a parrot

I am an "adopt a pet" nut! i mean i fly off the handle when it comes to shelter animals and such. All four of my dogs are rescues and so is my cat. We have a few full bird rescues around my area however, i am buying from a breeder.
My reason is that i am new to birds, i know if i were to adopt a bird with baggage i wouldnt know the first thing about it or how to fix it. I am getting tons of information on my new family member, i just dont feel confident or knowledgeable enough to adopt.
to all those here with experience, i admire and appreciate you adopting from a rescue! they all deserve homes!
But if anyone out there has a dog with baggage, im your girl :) that i can do!

Love my rescue parrot. He was going to be put to sleep because he had plucked himself bald and his previous owner didn't want to deal with him. It's a horrifying thought that anyone could neglect, much less willfully murder, such a sweet, wonderful companion.

He needed a LOT less work than I would have thought, too, given his background.

All my critters (except the snake) are rescues, though. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just FYI, Kazi was my first bird since having parakeets as a small child. I have well behaved, rehabbed dogs and the two aren't at all unalike. If you can rehab a dog, you can rehab a parrot, too! Sally Blanchard has a lot of great info on rehomed parrots. Between her and my background with rescue dogs we managed just fine!

Most of my birds are second hand birds. I love them dearly!!! BUT there are advantages in having a baby bird IF you can train it properly, it is VERY important to train properly when they're young. Yes you can train adult birds too as well but from me having babies and raised them myself personally, I train them right from the very beginning. A responsible breeder is a good breeder to purchase your baby bird from. There's actually NOT much rescued birds in my area, once in awhile we do but not often so the best option was to purchase. Some areas don't have the luxury in adopting even IF we wanted to. I have looked everywhere before to adopt and none was available and all the adoption agency will not deal with me because I was too far away from them. And I've heard horrible stories about adoption agency as well, not all are bad, but some are. I believe as long as the person is responsible, a baby would be an option.
