Do not feed the trolls.

I have to say - I am SO very thankful I live where I live. One of THE BEST things our government ever did was to tighten up on gun control.

We do still have some guns of course, but you have to have legitimate reasons to get one legally (farmers for example can apply for gun licences if necessary for vermin control, euthenasing injured stock etc). Self-protection is not a permitted reason. The storage of firearms is VERY strict - they must be kept in a locked gun safe. Guns must not be stored loaded. All ammunition must be stored separately in another locked safe. Only the licence holder is allowed to know where the keys for the safes are kept. Inspectors will periodically check up on gun storage. And yes, there will always be criminal elements of society that procure & use guns illegally & law enforcement work hard to weed those out as much as they can.

If strict gun control means I have no way of protecting myself in my home at night - so be it. It doesn't worry me at all, I sleep at night just fine. Less guns out there means a safer society, and if our laws prevent just one major incident, it is so worth it.

No one is saying that what has happened is not incredibly tragic. It's unimaginably horrendous & we ALL have sympathy for the victims & their families. It's just heart breaking.

I watched the news yesterday in the breakroom at work, makes me sick.

I believe gun control is an issue, because it is FAR too easy to obtain one. I'm not saying guns should be outlawed, but some kind of psych test or something should be required.

As for things like this being caused by how you're raised? Partially to blame, maybe. But I'm one of those who's been through a lot, and turned out just fine. I was a foster care kid, and have been on my own since I was 16. I'm now 23, almost 24 years old, with a full time job and my own place, and have been this way for the past 3 years. No, I didn't get to go to college out of high school, but I will. But I'm stable, intelligent and put together, without being raised in a traditional sense.

I don't think parents should be held entirely responsible for how their child turns out, I think medical professionals need more education in child psychology for properly evaluating the mental health of a child or teen, to recognize and treat a potential problem before it becomes an issue while they're an adult. I know PLENTY of people that have talked their way out of situations where their mental health is in question. I'm also not saying medicate everyone! But therapy and support can make a huge difference.

I wonder what will happen to the surviving children, because they have to relive this every day, and how many more will resort to violent behavior because of it? It's a terrible cycle.

I can't even turn on the TV or look at Facebook. It's so upsetting. Why would anyone do such a thing? I don't have children, but I certainly feel for all of the victims families. :(

You guys are missing the major issue that the guns these murderers are getting are not legally obtained. They are stolen. It doesn't matter what precautions are used when you break into mommy and daddy's gun safe and use your dad's legal gun that he owns to kill 20 kids.

Aquila, it is the parents who bring up the child which makes you who they are. They are the people who need to see the problems in their child or the other half parents meaning their teachers at school can share with the parents what is going on. I don't see how you feel that the parents are only partially to blame. This adolescent was angry with his mom for caring more about her students than she cared about him. Everyone's been through a lot in their lives, and they don't decide to murder 20 children and their mom in a day. It's not an excuse.

So then who turns the teen over to health officials if it's not the parents fault or problem?? Who gives them therapy if there isn't money for it or if they even know it?

Last week at the school my mom teaches at, two boys and a girl, all 13 years old in middle school.....they got her drunk and raped her in the park. the one boy acted as the look out and the other raped her. Look it up, Union City, California. Who do you blame? the school for letting them be able to escape off campus or the parents for raising 13 year olds to think that behavior is ok? They left her drunk and confused at the park all alone. I can't imagine how her mother feels.

It takes someone to refer a medical professional to someone in need, and someone that needs help isn't the first person that walks into a shrinks door....sorry this isn't a perfect world.

It is also ridiculous to assume the children in this situation will resort into violent tendencies because of this tragedy.

Am I like not on the same planet as half of the people of this forum or what?

The last thing we need here now is a debate over guns.

What happened yesterday is beyond words. :(
Please be compassionate for the poor, innocent victims and their families, and ALL that are affected.

we don't need those photos, they are all over the news.

please scroll up and see how obscene the members from other countries are reacting to our horrible tragedy and how they feel the US should be ran. I don't even know what you would call a back seat driver from another country. Apparently we are the only country with issues and our shat doesn't stink. Stop asking us for help when you have problems because you know darn well we are the first country there to help when you need it most.
