I hadn't had a rosella before I got Rainbow. She was given to me by her previous owners who didnt want her anymore. I'm not sure of her full background story because i was away when she came to my house and my mum had arranged all of this. I only found out through a phonecall.
Rainbow is a featherplucker its noticeable on the top of her wings and when she has a shower you can see exactly how much she has plucked. She has a band of baldness under her stomach close to the vent stretching around her sides to abover her tail, also her legs are bald. As a result of this she can't fly. When I first met her she also had blisters on the bottom of her feet and her perches where wrapped in masking tape. Her previous owners told my mum that the people they got her from said she was allergic to wooden and plastic perches. I did find this a bit strange, i mean it could be possible but I thought well what is she supposed to sit on. Anyway I removed the masking tape to find that underneath it was a perch covered in mould. I chucked them in the bin. Afterwards I got her some new smaller perches (cockatiel/small parakeet size) because she had parrot sized perches so her feet couldnt of been comfortable. She has been to the vets and they prescribed some medicine to sooth her skin.
Anyway I found her feet recovered and she allowed a lot of her feathers to regrow. some areas are not going to grow back but she is still continuing to let them regrow. occasionally she pulls a feather out when I'm happy with them and have told her she's done ever so well. I mist her with a water spray bottle and she has lots of toys. I'm quite sad she is unable to fly because she likes to flap when shes out of her cage. Also she's a very sweet bird and steps up and accepts food but she doesnt like being touched (she screams at me if i try).
I thought rainbow being the only rosella in a house of lovebirds (she has her own cage) could be lonely so she now has a younger friend called Tooki. Since Tooki has been with us rainbow is alot more vocal and she goes down to the bottom of her cage floor which was something she didnt do before.
I've realised I've been saying Rainbows a she but Rainbow could be a he
