Hi, I bought an indian ringneck a week ago. The store weighed the bird and said it was 126.5 grams and that the bird was 15 weeks old. Is that not an extremely heavy weight for a 15 week old Indian ringneck?

I truly believe it is young by the sounds it makes, but when looking weights up, the 126.5 grams seemed to be on the high side of a fully grown indian ringneck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will be taking the bird for a full exam at the vet at the end of next week.

Sorry that your Thread had been missed, sadly that does happen from time to time, but with this Post, it should get bumped back on the Board and with luck someone with greater experience than I will chime in.

The weight provided by a Pet Store is only as good as the ability of the individual obtaining the weight and the devise used. Since, it is rare for Pet Store staff to obtain a weight in the first place. The likelihood of staff to have the time outside of the weaning area would be very rare. Plus, most Pet Store staff are doing little more that mouthing what they have been told or overheard someone else say, which may or may not be in regard to your Parrot.

Weight is best taken first thing in the morning just after that Parrots first moment and prior to food being provided. This assures an empty Parrot and a weight that can be compared over-time.

Sorry, I do not know what your Parrot's weight should be at this age...
