I actually had to start a stupid new medication that has turned me into an insomniac, so I woke up at 1:30 in the morning, which totally made the wait worse than Christmas for a kid -.- And I was staring at hubby all night contemplating waking him up so that he'd have to suffer with me. But I was good, really. I waited until 8:30 and let him sleep.

Then I jumped on him and yelled "BIRDBIRDBIRDBIRDBIRDBIRDBIRDBIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Strangely, I don't think he appreciated the wakeup call. Not sure why not :54:

We went to pick baby up at 1:30. I literally bounced in my seat the whole ride over with my hands shaking.

We brought Vandal home and I resigned myself to leaving him alone to settle in while staring at him surreptitiously, but he wasn't having that.

He paced the floor.. "Hold me!!"

Not one to disappoint, I did.

He was actually pretty shy at first, mostly wanting to snuggle into my neck and make little baby noises. One of the dogs walked into the room (didn't manage to get any pictures of this) and he suddenly decided he wasn't a little baby anymore but a BIG BIRD, and stood up very tall and threatening like. Not sure the dog noticed :p wasn't even looking at him. But in any case, after that he turned back into a normal bird and wanted to go exploring.

I did not get as many pictures as I would have liked, since I was too distracted with love and shakiness. He kept trying to plunge his giant tongue up my nostrils and really, really wanted to stuff his head down my shirt.

He ate like a champ -- everything I offered him, but was OMG excited when he got the bountiful harvest parrot blend from MSBS. I think it was the dried bananas that set him off. He started yelling and couldn't get off my arm fast enough to get into his cage when he saw what I was putting in there.

He's such a love and a sweetheart. It's going to be sooo hard convincing myself not to hold him too much. It's a good thing I have a football game to go to today, to put a limit on my time :)

You must be absolutely over the moon! :D Many congrats on bringing gorgeous Vandal home!

Let all the fun and all the adventures begin. :D

What a sweetheart that one is!!!

Many Congrats! Vandal is adorable! :D:D Have fun with your new baby! ;)

Welcome home beautiful Vandal! He's so cute. I look forward to watching him grow up.

I'm not going to lie, I woke up my boyfriend earlier this morning when I read this post after I started to giggle exceptionally loud at your "BIRDBIRDIBRDBIRD!" wake-up call! I'm so happy to see Vandal in your home, you must just be absolutely thrilled to be able to wake up in the morning and say hello to him!

And please, keep posting as MANY pictures and videos as you can! I love looking at his adorable baby face and listening to his sounds.

Welcome to the wonderful world of macaw addiction. From one addict to another...

Settling in happens faster on a lap!

I lovelovelovelovelove him! I brought him into bed this morning and he apparently decided that since neither of the dogs ate him overnight, they must be pretty cool because he kept wanting to go over and walk on their backs x.x That is going to be fun deterring him from.

He helped me get ready for the Cardinals game this morning, and was very polite by not pooping on my jersey. In fact, so far he doesn't poop at all until you put him back in his cage. Lets hope that holds true o.o

He really likes to stick his beak into my hand and just sit there like that.

I've been saying "kiss the birdie!" and holding his beak and kissing his facial skin, so now when I say it, he either shoves his beak into my hand or up toward my face, whichever is closer.

He always seems to want me to stroke his tail or rub under his wings, and then he rolls over onto his side.

He really reminds me of a small, feathery puppy. I got so many pictures that would have been adorable, but the lighting in the office must be bad because they all came out so blurry =/ I was making "the claw" at him and grabbing his chest, and after a few times he started making a claw back at me with one of his feet!! But it's completely unrecognizable in the picture I got :(

Awww...what a beautiful baby!! Congrats!!

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing Vandal's homecoming photos! What a little sweetheart you have there. Keep the photos coming.

Maggie does the same thing with Sarah shoving the beak in her hands. When we first got Maggie, Sarah wasn't sure about her, so she did the two fingers on the beak number before loving on her...

Now Maggie shoves her beak into Sarah's hand as a "get with the program and scratch my head" kind of thing.

That photo with the two fingers on the beak is the perfect illustration of how easy a macaw's beak can be controlled, if you remain calm, and don't make a fuss...

When you think of macaws and screamers, you generally associate that sort of behavior with THE BIRD... :D
