This year has seen a record number of Amazon Kingdoms closing their lands from the further use of raiding rafters (sometimes called gangs) of turkeys. Leading scientists from around the world have theorize that global warming (now called climate change) is the likely cause of the ever increasing size of the Wild Turkey population (Re: RB, the bird not the whiskey) has increased as greater areas of turkey friendly habitat opened.

In speaking with one of the caretakers of a large Amazon Kingdom in the western regions of a land called Michigan: He stated that those scientists are full of turkey sh#* and the true reason is that there are not enough large predictors to keep their populations in check. Although a bit of an old grump (he kept telling me to ā€˜keep of the grassā€™), he clearly had been busy of late, since the owner of this Kingdom had recently joined in closing the lands to turkeys. Seeing the likelihood of garnering more insightful answers to the recent closures, I press on.

Sir, what would you say was the reason that this Amazon Kingdom has joined so many others Kingdoms in closing its boarders to the rafters of turkeys? What rafters? Oh, you mean those blasted turkeys. Well sonny, there had been this unspoken agreement that the turkeys could quickly pass through here as they migrated north to south in the Spring and back north in the Fall. That had been working well over the years until early this Spring when one of the Tomā€™s decided to gather his harem in the Eastern Region of this Kingdom. That region sits in full view of the Kingā€™s morning room. When his majesty witnessed, what was occurring in his favorite pastoral region. He demanded their removal!

Seeing an insightful moment, I pressed on; What occurred? Youā€™re kidding me right sonny? Donā€™t they still teach about the ā€œBirds and the Beesā€ in school anymore?

Why yes sir, they do, but? But what kid, do I have to draw you a picture or something here? That big old Tom was busy assuring those hens would be having his chicks ā€“ if you get my drift here!

So, this Tom had turned your Kingā€™s East Region into a what? A House of Ill Repute? Well sonny, thatā€™s one way of putting it! Not sure that was what lead to the closure since that was back in March. On that day, the fact that the Tom just kept on with his business and paid no attention to the demands of King Julio didnā€™t help matter much. After what seemed like an hour, the Misses demanded that I force those turkeys out of the Eastern Regionā€¦ Have you ever try to ā€˜encourageā€™ a gang of turkeys to move-on! Have you? Itā€™s got to be worst then herding cats! All the while I am ā€˜encouragingā€™ these turkeys to leave, I can hear the demands from on-high and the Misses shouting instructions - that was not one of my better morning, let me tell you that kid! Hey, have you ever cleaned-up turkey poooo? Not something I would put on a ā€˜Bucket Listā€™, let me tell you that for sure! It was the better part of a morning before the Kingdom was settled.

So, that didnā€™t lead to the closing of the Kingdom to the turkeys? Heaven no! The way I heard it, there was a fortune made selling CDā€™s to one of the Parrot Bars over in Greytown. But thatā€™s just a rumor, you know what I mean, right kid?

While you had been pushing all of these turkeys out of the Eastern Region did you get a count of how many turkeys had been in the region? Young man, this entire area was filled with Turkey and they had been there for a while. The combination of getting them to move-on and not stepping in all their ā€˜presentsā€™ kept me plenty busy.

Well, if you had to guess, what would your guess be? Fifty maybe sixty, possible more!

Were there any complaints made? I know that a couple of complaints had been provided. One to the United (Parrot) Nations, but that complaint sits in a Deliberation Committee and will like not see the light of day. The other went to the Congress of Amazon Kingdoms and that with other complaints has likely been the foundation for all the closures of late.

Do you know what drove this recent Band from this Kingdom? Hmmm, likely yesterday, when that Tom was in the face of a younger Tom that was making moves on the old guyā€™s ladies. And, that was occurring yet again in the Eastern Region while the King was having breakfast. Not liking his breakfast activities disrupted, he was loudly remarking on his displeasure on what was happening, where, and when. The older Tom made short work of the younger, turned and while exiting to the South was opening remarking back at His Majesty. It would be fair to say that the King was outraged at the backtalk from that Tom and that would not be allowed to stand.

Okay, what happened? Well, I spend the balance of the morning moving about the Eastern Region at his direction and he was clearly up to something. Yesterday afternoon King Julio was seen have a discussion with the ā€˜Queen of the Skiesā€™ in this area as she finished couching her chick on flight. Sheā€™s a healthy Red Tail that clearly rules the skies in this area. It seems that they were completing this yearā€™s agreement for high-speed turning training practices for her and the other families in this area. But there seemed to be far more detail regarding what had historically been the observerā€™s area and now two separate flight paths as part of this yearā€™s agreement! The normal one that pulls tight to the house with the high-speed banking turn and onto the Bird Feeder, which sits to the North. And, the other:

This morning, after the announcement ā€˜Banding the Turkeys from this Kingdomā€™, I noted the Queen and her mate detailing a new flight path through the trees to the South of the house with a hard-dropping turn like along the house, but this one was in the Eastern trees line that defined the Eastern most limits of the Eastern Region. Specifically, that area that the Turkeyā€™s had been using to watch and wander by.

The caretaker would make not any commitment(s) as to what may or may not be in the works, but did recommend that I return in early ā€“ mid July to watch the flight training of the fledging Hawks. But he did say that the Skyā€™s over this Amazon Kingdom maybe far more dangerous than in the past few years!

Aaaa, one of the many jewels place within that report.

Sounds like Julio has this under control.... for now. Kiwi is on call if need be.

The Hawk's were completing more dry runs early this morning. I have never seen this behavior before. Julio was as interested as I was. The speed is amazing. This could be a very interesting summer.

Julio greatly appreciated Kiwi's generous offer.

An update!

Since a family of Crow was allowed on the Grounds of the Kingdom this late Spring. A favored Amazon King was seen working (providing teachings) to that family of Crows, the two Adults and 'four' young ones. The rich findings in the fields and woodlands of the Kingdom had provided for the family and in return the Crows have kept the Turkeys away! Our Amazon King did today, end the stay of the Crows with a warning that the contract with the Red Tail Hank Queen begins this weekend.

Several hours after the Crow family left this morning, the Red Tail Hank Queen was seen running the high speed turning trials prior to the young showing this weekend! And, King Julio was seen placing the Crow's 'Call' cards in a save place for use at sometime in the future.

Our King was not happy until the green landing (rolling) field was cut with proper height and angle of pattern to safeguard the early learners of the Hawk families!

The first parade is always a joy to watch as the Queen and her chicks come in on a slow and wide turn and on and up to the North. Once they are all settled in the observation tree. The Hawk King swings in at full speed and very tight to the building followed by a hard outside turn and drop into the kill zone to the North. The speed and precision needs to be seen to be believed.

The next three weeks is going to be a joy to watch.
