Striga said ā€˜Me next!!ā€™ Lol, anyways, heā€™s the first budgie I ever owned, I got him from, regrettably a big box pet store as I didnā€™t know what rescues were! Somehow Craigslist never occurred to me!
Heā€™s the most polite and sweetest of the budgies.
When I brought him home! Little baby šŸ˜

Every little birdy deserves a loving forever home, whether they come from those big box pet stores or not, and Striga certainly has one with you! His name is quite intriguing, what was the inspiration behind it?

Youā€™re so right!
Iā€™m a big Witcher fan, and a Striga is one of the creatures he defeats in the book and Netflix series.
When I got Striga as a baby I didnā€™t know about cere color so I thought maybe Striga was a female for some reason, since strigas are exclusively female in the book series, he was late to develop color but behold, heā€™s a boy! šŸ˜…

Oh I thought it might've been a Witcher reference, but I got thrown because that creature is a female! It reminds me of one of my Andreas Vollenweider albums too, "Book Of Roses", the opening track is called "La Strega" - yes I am a bit of an old hippie šŸ˜„

Romeo was basically dumped on me by relatives, they just showed up at a family holiday with him.
He was in a little cage, ate Walmart seed, and had a plastic ring toy.
They called him a vampire bird.
Funny, how heā€™s never made me bleed!

I just wish I couldā€™ve adopted him sooner. He was with my relatives for 6 years and with owners who cared for him similarly 6 years before.
But heā€™s happy now. I regret not changing his name sometimes though.

Romeo is a really nice name. I may use it someday myself.

Awwwwww, just look at that sweet, trusting little face šŸ˜ Romeo is one lucky little dumpee to have been dumped on you! Oh I wish my 'tiels would jump in the bath like that, they LOVE a shower from the mist bottle but are yet to take the initiative and bathe themselves šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Sime birds just don't seem to want to bathe but have you ever tried a kitty water fountain? Rocky can take or leave still water but as soon as she sees that bubbling fountain she can't resist jumping right in. After getting herself drenched I carefully give her a warm gentle blow dry making sure the warm air is comfortable to my skin before it hits her. I don't want her to get chilled.

He used to use his water dish while I sprayed him to get him started, now he just prefers the spray bottle šŸ˜

Hereā€™s Grim! The only bird of mine who actively seeks me out to hurt me! Lol. He just has an attitude. Second budgie I ever got, as a friend for Striga. He was the youngest bird I ever adopted, just 2-3 months old!
Heā€™s the only bird Iā€™ve had to go through such a drastic color change, he was gray when I brought him home, then turned purple, now a gray purple!

Well he would have all his claws but somebody decided to remove it.
Ahem Tony!

Oh dear, bad birdie Tony! I don't know how Val lost his claw, I guess it must've been very early on though, probably at his breeders' place cos it was like that when we got him. Thankfully his new buddy Lovejoy doesn't bite him on his toes the way Lilly used to do - she was only tiny but she could bite REALLY hard and I'd feel so badly for Val when she got him on the toe šŸ˜

I know! Itā€™s so sad when they get hurt! I remedy this problem for now by putting a quilt over the roof of Tonyā€™s cage when the budgies are out and he isnā€™t.

Its interesting how when budgies have serious squabbles they attack each others feet. It must be painful but seems to heal well. There are a lot of budgies out there missing toenails (or entire toes!) from having the nerve to walk on top of another budgie's cage and tease them (like "Ha Ha I'm out here and you're not")! I guess their feet are their most vulnerable part since they're featherless and are targeted for aggression. I've also noticed that I can tell that a budgie means business and isn't just playing when he squawks and raises one leg and puts his foot on the other bird's breast or back. Maybe an act of dominance? Has anyone else ever noticed this behavior?
