This is her this afternoon, 10 minutes after her bath, it went on for 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure this reinforces that she actually kind of likes the baths. She's a happy birdie.

How do we prepare and serve the egg shells? I have a Silver Bullet blender thingy , just run the shells through there? Do they need cooked in any way?

Hi, yeah I use the same exact Silver Bullet thing. Sometimes I just crush it with my hand. It doesn't have to be a fine powder. My egg shells are usually from hard boiled eggs. I read that raw egg can be bad so I rinse off any yolk if the shell is uncooked.

Do you serve the shells with the membrane still attached to it? Today I tried to peel it from the shells after I removed the hard boiled egg from the shell.

Hey buddy, yeah I clean everything out...just leave the bare eggshell and nothing else. I just run it under hot water and keep cleaning with my finger until everything is gone.

I've picked up on what I believe is Perjo talking to me but via her whistles and noises. When she is on my shoulder or hand and wants her head or neck rubbed, she makes a particular noise most times. I just realized this the other day. I also think she has a call for me and a call that is her way of saying yes.

But what really has surprised me more than that is that she has picked up on the rhythm and tempo of my whistles to her.

I tend to make a series of different whistles in a varied pitch very quickly to her. I noticed that she does try to mimic the pitch AND the tempo, but she also applies the tempo variations to her other noises she uses with me.

It seems nothing gets by her, or CAGS in general.

Perjo had her lungs this afternoon. At the very end she does her duck impersonation.

Noticing a lot of the fluffy white feathers gathering up in Perjo's cage. She doesn't seem to be plucking or preening excessively, but she is going to be 7 months old near the end of June.

Molt starting?

She has also starting actually biting me a bit, two days in a row she seems not to want me to pet her down her back as often as I usually do. She'll let me rub her head and neck still, but seems to snap at me if I rach around her back. Nothing seems out of order with her health, I wonder if this has anything to do with a her being 7 months and possibly starting her first molt?

You're on target for the molt and generally greys don't like to be pet a lot on the back. They're so funny. As Perjo grows she'll get more and more of her unique personality. Awesomeness! There's a funny YouTube of a grey hanging out with its owner (who owns who really, though...) and as the owner goes to pet the bird, he stands up and says, "Don't touch me!"

Thanks for the videos. I have been playing your videos for Buzz. He perks up when he hears them.

As for stroking her back, my Amazon, Ekkie, and Buzz do not like this. I can scratch my amazons head, neck and cheeks, my Ekkie flattens like a pancake because she is very hormonal right now, and Buzz, we are still settling in. But my point is most birds take touching the back as a sexual approach and don't like it. She may be developing this dislike due to her maturing. She's beautiful.

It's strange to me b/c I've petted her on her back for ten minutes at a time since the day I brought her home. She has loved every moment of it , until the last two days it appears. My hand is the same as it was then too, no cast or marks or anything to spook her.

When I play the video back to myself Perjo start up her whole routine thinking she's got a friend somewhere in the house. It's hilarious.

I don't like to just play a video of sounds like this though b/c the context isn't there. While I know bird can learns sounds and words this way, I think it is artificial and not true growth if they don't learn it in the proper context.

I'll play her animal sounds from Google, but I teach her what the animal is and don't just play it on a loop and leave her alone.

This might sound crazy to some, but I'm guessing not to most. Today I take Perjo to stay at the breeders as I'll be out of town for a night. First night away from my soon to be 7 mo little feathered star. Feels strange, but the breeder is great and they say most CAGs do fine and most birds in general do as well.

Going to take her favorite perches and two toys and one chew toy (the giant one she was scared to death of 6 weeks ago). She likes it now.

As much as I'm a tad bummed I'm almost excited to hear the report back b/c I half expect them to say she spoke her first words while she was spending the day (one night with them). I've heard this is not uncommon, kind of like a kid.

Today's whistle routine as I made her breakfast bowl.

Had a very relaxing and special moment with Perjo today. She lets me handle her almost as I please at any time, I'm lucky that way. But she is not a fan of me trying to roll her on her side or back in my hand. Today I laid down on the couch and she was walking on my chest and decided to crouch down by my face and let me rub her neck. She didn't want me to stop at all and relaxing and laying down on her stomach with her head on its side while I rubbed her ears for nearly 40 minutes.

Aww how cute - I love morning chatter time with Gracie. Perjo sounds very happy. Gracie wasn't a huge fan of rolling on her side or back but since she liked hanging upside down on my finger I just started to take baby steps & cup her back when I was putting her down. Over a few weeks she got to the point where I could hold her that way.

Perjo has started exploring on the floor level. I kept her off the floor from early on. She has spent a lot of time on a coffee table and a small play stand when I take her out of her cage. She started climbing down the cage and standing on the floor from the get go, didn't venture around much. Now she walks around the living room, it's entirely different and changes everything. Whether I'm sitting on the couch or in another room close by, I ahve to be so much more aware of where she is.
