Sunny update! More photo spam!

Oh Hannah, your huge heart has no boundaries for animals. Very sorry to hear of the two horse losses. I cannot imagine the heartbreak when these majestic creatures pass.

Breathing a huge sigh of relief with a Sunny sighting! Hope he visits today, you very much need a feathered hug from our superstar!! No apologies needed for sharing your dread, Hannah. Dreams and panic attacks are "remains of the day" and inspire all manner of frights. You are a treasured part of the PF family, wishing you some peace of mind and more joy ahead.

What a lovely thing to say, thank you so much. It means a lot to me.

Hannah, I don't know if it's relevant or not, but the symptoms you describe sound like snakebite. It's the time of year when the snakes are just starting to come out and move around. Sometimes, they'll park in a sunny spot to warm up and cattle (or horses, I've seen it happen to both) will tread on them and score a bite or two on the lower leg. A large cow can sometimes recover from the bite, but ponies often succumb quickly. You might want to ask your vet what he thinks, just in case. Better to be safe, y'know?

Are you aware of Red Bellies or Eastern Browns in your area at this time?

Scott beat me to it, Hannah, but he’s absolutely right. There’s no need to apologize to us for sharing your fears - even when they’re anxiety and panic driven. Many of us have been there. My anxiety often centers on my brain making up horrible things that could happen to my animals. This is a safe, wonderful family where we can share our happiness, sadness, fears, etc. with no shame. Thank you for letting all of us be here for you to share your concerns.

I’m glad that Sunny is safe, and I’m so very sorry for your losses. What a horrible week.

There's not a thing to apologise for Hannah. An awful, saddening week for you to be sure. So sorry to hear about the horses, and at the same time, soooooo relieved that Sunny has returned. I hope you get to see him in person ASAP! Like so many others here, I've been on the edge of my seat hoping for that news. Thank you for keeping us updated. I suspect Mr Sunny will be along soon enough, hot young chick by his side!

It's True!

Wonderful news about Sunny being sighted and hopefully he will wing his way back to his loving mum for a skritch (and maybe a tiny bit of a lecture about being so naughty!) in the coming days.

I’m so sorry that you’ve had some devastating losses with your horses though. Betrisher is possibly right about snakebites, here in Brisbane I think we’ve just completely bypassed spring and gone straight into summer so snakes will be active!

Hi Hannah, I'm new here and have to admit that I haven't taken the time to go through all 'journeys' as I have been adjusting to my second baby in parronthood. I do know of you from all of the stunning photo entries and another post or two from you.

Along with Betrisher and LaManuka, Spring is early in south NSW and red belly and browns etc are coming out. Knowing that it may have been a snake bite for the other Brumby may help with closure. It doesn't lessen the pain.

We have new neighbours who had a horse. Didn't even know them and never met the horse. Looked out my kitchen window and saw the horse go down and kick in pain...observed the awful death from my window as their interventions didn't help. I cried my heart out watching an unknown horse go down in pain. You must have been through a great deal. I empathize.

Glad Sunny has been sighted. Great news. No doubt when he shows up for his scritch mommy will take a STUNNING pic for us. You are a real sweetie Hannah.

Aw you’re all so kind and lovely, thank you everyone it really means a lot to know I have your support and understanding my troubles.
I still haven’t seen the boy, I’m clearly not high on his priority list haha! I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him flying over plenty of time though. However there is hundreds of Corellas around at the moment and they all sound like crazy Sunnys! He’ll pop home when his ready to see his mother.. and some seed no doubt. :p

Thanks for suggesting that it could have been a snake bite. Although it’s still pretty cold here in Victoria, actually very cold (I hate it!). But the past week we’ve had some warm Sunny days so it is possible.

My parents are coming to visit from the U.K. to visit in a couple of weeks so I have that to look forward too :)

I miss him so much. I miss his funny little face, his funny little character, his funny little noises and everything about him.
It hurts so much. I want him to be wild, I’m so happy for him. But my god, I’m so sad.
I’ve had a perfectly fine day at work today. Parked up at home, missed sunny greeting me and now I can’t stop crying.
It hurts so bad. I feel so lost.

My heart hurts for you Hannah. I miss him too!:( I pray he stops in to say HI and let you know he is fine.

Oh Hannah, my heart goes out to you, it truly does. All you have done for Sunny is absolutely beautiful. You gave him everything, and asked nothing in return. There aren't many as selfless as that on the planet. Thank you for that! I still feel that he'll be back around to see you, and show you his wonderful confident self.

I get the lost feeling. Once in a great while, that special one comes along- your heart animal. Those of us lucky enough to have had that understand. For me, that one was Patches. In all his featherless glory, he was perfect. My son talks about him every so often, and I still cry like a baby. I miss him every day. Tucker and Baxter make life so much better, but they're not him. Of course, he wasn't them either, so I'm lucky to have two amazing birds with me now. My wife always says, "everything for a reason". So I believe that the experience is a part of making me who I am. I thank my boy Patches for that. He taught me how to really open my heart for the ones to come.

With all that said, just know that you're an amazing person for all your care and effort with Sunny, and all you do, Again, I do believe you'll see him soon, and in the meantime, you know inside that you did right by him, allowing him to choose.

It is so human to seek the best for Sunny and ask for him to reward you with a bit of acknowledgment. Yet we know the most tame of birds will often take flight if given the opportunity of open window or door. They seem able to compartmentalize their status far better than parronts. Wonder if leaving some treats outside might act as lure?

The fact that he is able to readjust to the wild is a testament to your ways!

My daughter once rescued a fledgling mockingbird that some kid used as a football! I really had low expectations of her survival, but I worked with my daughter! We kept her in our screen enclosure. This is Florida, so the room is the size of a small house!
After about 2 months she was flying quite well and male birds were beginning to court her through the screening. At that point, we started leaving the doors open and she would leave for the day, but always return at dusk! This went on for a few months and she stopped returning. The following spring, with a yard full of birds, there was one that would come within a few feet of my daughter and just hang!
Her name is Peeps!

C'mon now Sunny! Will you please please PLEASE go visit your MUM!!! She (and US) are worried sick over your absence! She didn't mean to ignore you that day, honestly! but she was having to deal with a terrible situation with the very ill horseys and she couldn't give you the attention that you were wanting at the time. She still loves her Sunny Boi very much, just like your fans from all over the world. Mum desperately needs a huge feathery hug from her handsome guy! I think it is time for you to get off your "high horse" (pun intended!) and go see her!
