Booby flew onto our terrace on September 11, 2020. We live on the 14th floor. I don't know if parrots can fly that high up but the person lives more than 10 miles away. I posted on 911parrotalert and someone emailed me yesterday.

I am not giving the bird to anyone until i am sure that it is their bird. I want to know what to ask. i sent them an email and am trying to contact a vets office in the Bronx, NY but they don't pick up their phone.

The person who contacted me said that they got her from a breeder on September 10. But has no paperwork. Like I said I'm from NYC I don't trust anyone. She said her other bird bonded with Booby. Do they bond like that in one day?

It's absolutely possible and they can fly 40+ miles per day...So, it can happen...probable? Not so much, given the "story". You have the bird, you can always say "no" if the reaction you see when they meet is bad...right? they can bond fast if they "choose" you (but don't expect that if you meet a random parrot at a store)...I mean, if the bird likes you better than this person, I feel like the ball is still in your court.. It feels mean to say that...but I want the bird to be happy...the bird has likely been through some trauma...You have the power here-- ask questions if you feel brave enough...I'd not meet this person anywhere other than the police station...

Banding or microchipping = not required and can be serious health hazards, so this person could very well be telling the truth...but they could also be full of it.

Ask how she escaped...
If they had her for a day and couldn't keep her....I'd say.. cough...you know...

I know that birds get away as adults etc (even when they love their owners) but a loss on day 1 raises some red flags for me...If you have a bird long enough, it is easy to let your guard down...but not on day 1!

I am 500% in favor of reuniting parrots and owners, but if the bird hates the past owner...I guess I just think it should be the bird's choice at some point...I hope no one kills me for saying that...TO CLARIFY, many well-loved birds escape and are too disoriented or frightened to return..

They are telling me that they got the bird off of Craigslist but that they don't have any paperwork. I'm not buying that at all.

oh yeah as soon as i saw Booby on my terrace he flew towards me lol this lady might be telling the truth but how do you make a purchase for something on Craigslist and not get any paperwork? These birds are not cheap.

Many people do not...It's a very weird industry...do you have paperwork if you get a puppy from a friend?
Unlikely.
I am not saying to give this bird to a sketchy stranger (skepticism is very healthy)..I am just saying, it isn't black and white.

They could VERY EASILY be telling a lie..but its not certain. If they are telling the truth, how did they lose a bird on the first day they had it???

she said she had it for one day..like i said i am from NYC i don't trust anyone. If i'm spending all that money you better believe that i am getting a receipt. she said the companion bird bonded with and misses (her) I don't know if Booby is a he or a she

she said the door slammed and the bird flew away like i said i'm from NYC i don't trust anyone. I know we had Booby in a box for about a week before we got a cage. I have had animals before and i do not let them out in harms way.

So glad you have your NY spidey-sense working. It screams scam to me. 45yrs in NYC - yah we can spot them a mile away. Run that S**t in Hoboken, buddy.

Ty Salty i told fhem to meet me at the vets office next week. We are running a DNA test to determine the sex. Im willing to pay the $150 just to leave no doubt.

I'm pro finding the owner. But thus seems unlikely to me. One day? From a breeser? On Craigslist? You don't have a baby, and rgjs burd doesn't act like breeder that hasn't had contact with people..
And they absolutely could contact tge seller from Craigslist who would have had pictures and info.. plus I would want some proof tgey had posted about the lost bird.. that tgey had contacted vet offices, animals control, posted on Facebook posted on lost and found in tgeir town, I wanted to earn you nit to put exact date on here about when you found

I'm really not feeling this is a true person at all
( but you don't get paperwork usually)

Why hadn't tgey listed lost on parrot 911? Why did they visit parrot 911. I feel a visitor saw you post abd story here tgrn went to parrot 911....

Abd as an owner of a lost bird yiu know how much I want birds reunite with the owner......

I contacted parrot rescues, vets, burd stores, i cintacted all animal control, I listed on parrot 911, I kisted on our towns lost bird, I posted on Craigslist under lost pets, I out up tons of fliers, abd I had help posting on Facebook, abd aldo other I line lost pet sites,
So if tgdy got the bird on Craigslist, did they post loxt on Craigslist??? Fo they have pictures of their burd???

If they lost the bird after one day, call me callous, but I'd say...NOPE...

And if they know the sex of their lost bird, thst means they would have a DNA certificate!!!!!
If tgey wre buying to be a breeder snd wanted a certain sex tgey woukd have DNA certificate!!@ even sellers on Craigslist will offer DNA certificate if tgey are selling a breeder, to prove sex,

o would not meet them at. Vets office. Id meet after they had proof.
She us saying one day,, because the parrot won't know her or respond to her. This person is too shady,, the story is too shady
And most birds come from pet store or breeder and would hsve paperwork, thus feels like a crafted story.....and it makes me mad. Mad for my lost burd,

Thanks Laura I hope that someday you and your Quaker reunite. The girl sent me some pics its not the same bird. The coloring is off and Booby does not hang out on the floor..lol
She said she had it for a month and that the breeder had a feeling that the bird was female by looking at her stomach...I can't make this up.

Crisis averted..for now but Booby could feel that i was agitated. He kept nipping me on the mouth and ears...ouch

Excellent!!! I just came here to tell you to ask for pictures!!!!

Because their are differences! My two blue quakers are very different if you look closely. My new baby has much larger eyes, much h darker grey bib, much darker and more scallops. His front circle on his head in a different place. And Neptune was more blue.

Thank you, i want my Neptune back sooooo much! I fear because he has a huge vocabulary, that an awful person would keep him......if someone found him I would buy them a new baby blue quaker from the same breeder and parents!!! I would psy tgrm bsck if they bought a cage or for any vet bills and expenses.... i would do anything to get him back.......o truly have walked a hundred miles looking for him, over the same ground, and differnt areas.. hours and hours hours days, weeks and months looking for him ok crying now..... but happy for you
