New batch of chop made yesterday. 18 baggies of about a 5-7 day amount of chop in each, instead of a single feeding. Man I was bushed, as we had just come back from a Saturday gig in NJ at the Sea Pirates Campground, camping overnight. But It only tool about 3 hours total to get the food & bags, process the food, and bag it all up. In it are:

red peppers
green peppers
Jalapeno peppers
Anaheim peppers
Red lettuce
Broccolini
Broccoli
Carrot sticks
Corn
Habenero peppers
baby spinach/spring veggie mix

If his first meal of the mix is any indication, Salty loves it. The week/5 day amount really cuts down the bagging time, that was soooo tedious. I always mix in something different each night, like ground up nutraberries, Texas freeze dry veggie mix or some Zupreem colored pellets, or small amount of pasta, so he has some variation. This batch I used paper towels to soak up all the water and juices from the peppers to make the mix less watery when it's thawed out.

Thats my beef about making chop..it gets soooo watery! Amy seems to be getting tired of Bird Street Bistro, however BB gobbles it up,any flavor and leaves very little behind. I can hear him chirp as he dives in,almost like he is saying MMMMmmmmm, where I end up tossing a lot with Amy.I do add cauliflower and broc heads with baby carrots, shredded coleslaw mix (cabbage and radish) a couple grapes. We have a couple black berry bushes that donated a bunch of nice berries and I got the majority of them before the outside critters did but I find them on his basement floor  most of the time. He tosses most of it and I ask myself why do I go thru all the trouble just to find stuff on his front lawn
Might be time to try muffins again.
Happy to hear that the Saltmeister appreaciates all your effort Al!

Yeah I know how ya feel, Salty almost never eats his pellets (Roudybush), more like nibbles them during the day. The colored Zupreem ones he wont touch in his morning food bowl, but eats them when they are mixed with his evening chop - go figure. i tried Tops and Harrisons - nada, and they are too much $$ to keep offering them. LOL, he is like my youngest son was -"I ain't eating this! I don't like how it looks!"

I give my big birds veggies every other day.
First so they won’t get tired of it.
Second, on the days I don’t give veggies they all tend to eat more pellets (Zupreem nut blend).
I can hear them crunching away in the evening.
Bingo is the exception.
I don’t think he eats more than 3 or 4 pellets.
He takes them to his water dish one at a time to soften them up.

Mrs Boats has so spoiled Julio that he has developed a regiment of what, and what time, and in what order. With great luck when the guys visit the cable, he switches into eating when I do and close by. We have been very lucky that he is not a big share the wealth guy.

The cabin has keep us traveling enough that he has been able to enjoy road time.

Kev enjoys the odd pellet, when I can get them. He prefers birdie bread. I rotate his fresh fruits and veggies. He despises them chopped too small. I?ve learned his definition of too small as unclawable.

They?re all so peculiar.

Amy has two bowls..one with his daily meal stuff and the other with Roudybush senior maintenance, usually mixed with a few krispies of rice or cheerio's...sometimes a nutraberry or two..thats his snacking bowl. He'll crunch the pellets if there is nothing to his liking in his regular bowl. The snack bowl is located at the side of his house closest to BB's condo..I can catch Amy sometimes sitting at his bowl while he pulls the towel away that prohibits him from constantly gawking at Beebs, then munches on pellets...it's like he's watching porn and snacking away..pervert that he is!

So, despite the afternoon rain predicted ( which never came) Salty and I went to our first Long Island Parrot Society in person picnic. They haven't had a in person event in 1-1/2 years due to CV-19. About 25 people, and maybe 15 or so parrots showed up. There was even another yellow shoulder amazon, a 20yr old hen. The poor girl was not going great because her companion conure died late last year, and she has been sad and picking feathers since then. Salty was his usual vivacious self, he loves being around other parrots. Better weather would have brought out more of their members I'm told, I know the Zoom meetings 2x a month have about 40 or so people on line for them. I spread the ParrotForums love to all I talked to, so we may see some new members soon.

They want me to do a presentation on training later this year, which will be a lot of fun and i hope informative to the Society. So few people understand how great trick training can improve life for your parrot, strengthen the bond, and just boost the parrots learning capabilities in general. If it's a Zoom meeting , I can record it and post it for our Board here.

Tonight's training session held a surprise! We have a kiddie telephone as a prop, and I will say 'ring ring ring', and hand the receiver to Salty, while saying it's Donald Trump (or who ever), and Salty takes the receiver and hangs it up. Tonight, I said 'ring ring, ring' but was slow to pick up the receiver. Salty picked it up and handed it to me! I love this smart little guy so much.

Al, that is SCARY BRILLIANT. That is such complicated thought. I'm gonna have to cogitate on that one. Scary smart.
You better be nice to that bird.
Mm-hmmm.
You better.
xo

For Salty: Baby darling, you know your Auntie Gail gets you and will always take your side against that ol' Al boy, right? Right. Kissy lovie kissy!

DO parrots dream, ya think? I'm trying to figure out why, after years of training with some small animal figures ( 3 parrots, a bear, a lamb, a bell and a small ball) all of a sudden Salty treats them like they are radioactive. Or other changes in their personality. Could a bad dream about these props make him super cautious in approaching them? We've worked with these props for years now, and this is new behavior.

We've all read on here how one amazon suddenly did a hard 180 on his fav person, and its taken years for this fella to get the 'zon to come even close to re-accepting him. Why do they do this? I'd love to know.

Did this begin after the window incident, or before? Could this be a post-head-injury symptom?

Setting aside that question, and not having had my birdie nearly as long as yours, my Sunny has suddenly decided my fridge's whiteboard Marker is Terrifying, and she must fly off my shoulder in a Panic if I touch it. And, no, there have not been any traumatic nor startling events involving pens of any kind.... so, who knows....
