it is with a heavy heart that my husband and I have decided to find a new and hopefully permanent home for Keiko
I called her former owners and they can't keep her
let me know if you are interested
I have my reasons and they may not be good enough for some people but at this point I just want what is best for Keiko
I admit that I got in over my head but I do love her and want what is best for her
she will be 3 in sept
she is in almost perfect feather going through a big molt right now
she is very nervous
she will bite and it does hurt
if you have any questions let me know
she will also come with her cage and toys

I am so sorry you have to do this. As her owner, I trust you know what's best for her. I hope she finds a new home soon <3.

I have owned a couple parrots that never did connect with me or any family members. I tried my best to keep them happy and with lots to do , but when a chance came up for them to go to a better fit I let them go. Both are in vary happy homes with great owner bonds. I never regret taking them into my life, they tought me a lot.

Heather - I am so sorry you have to give up Keiko but totally understand that sometimes you have to do what you have to do. If it is what's best, then that's the end of that. I am sure you will find her a great home. I can tell you will be choosy on where she ends up next. If I lived closer I would consider it. Good luck!

So Mikeytn might be taking Keiko:D ...he is coming to meet her this week and see how it goes...fingers crossed:41:

I'm giving up Java to make this happen....after my neighbor came in the other day Java was all excited to see her. Java have always prefer ladies so the previous owner and I had an agreement if I don't want him she will take him back. But I'll turn around to give her certain restrictions, no smoking around him, must provide fresh veggies and fruits daily along with pellets. Plus several nuts daily as treats. She smoked around him and poor diet. I will be checking up on java! If she fails I will tell her to give him back to me. I hold to my agreement that's why I'm returning him after I tried everything with him he still prefer ladies.

A U2.....if she ends up coming back.....(no more birds nomorebirdnomorebirds) Sigh...I love cockatoos.

Shelly,

I've really tried...after a year and a half I finally decided to toss in the towel on a very first bird I've ever give back and it ended up being one type i love dearly....

Its got to be hard. I really hope it works out, for both birds!

I just realized that MikeyTN is in Nashville as is Heather.. I am in Thompsons Station/ Spring Hill just south of Franklin. Would love to get to know the TN people and someday maybe get together to play at a park with our babies. It is good to know that there are people in the Nashville area on this forum.

Heather,
it broke my heart to see that you said "I have my reasons and they may not be good enough for some people but at this point I just want what is best for Keiko
I admit that I got in over my head but I do love her and want what is best for her"
Not because you did something wrong, but because you felt you needed to justify adopting out a loved one that you knew would be better off out of your own home. As long as we are doing what is right for our non human family members, and sacrificing our own broken hearts to do it, we should never be made to feel we have done less than we should have, or that our reasons are not good enough.

MikeyTN,
Glad you are able to help out in this situation, hope Java's mommy does right by her this time and gives up the cigs, and puts out the good food :)

Great to know there is a place like this to network both globally and locally.

Riah,

Your as bad as me with the animals....lol.....I've got a deer head chihuahua too name Bucky, he was given to me by a old co-worker whom is no where to be found. I get people giving their animal to me too either close to death or very sick....That's where all my money went is for their vet cost and food...lol....

the reason I posted it that way is because in another post I had the wording someone used seemed to come across as rude/mean i might have taken it the wrong way but some times on a forum it's hard to tell...lol
also i think that it would be nice to have a get together i'm just east of nashville

Mikey i will offer you some words, since working with over hundred cockatoos I must say this is how a majority of of cockatoos end up. For example my jackpot the m2 is completely socialized and behaved but still acts like this in the spur of a moment do to his upbringing, this weekend out of nowhere he flew to me and went after me for absolutely no reason, but he was just doing it to see what would happen.

I've worked we plenty of cockatoos like java to know that it is not you or a preference it is him now, he has been imbedded to this type of actions that it is now how he chooses to act and that is how it will be. It will take years if ever for him to come around from this. He was never brought up right it sounds like and never raised like a cockatoo should so now he has been made this monster and it is hard to reverse. You did nothing wrong and I'd like to say with the velocity of cockatoos I work with many end up just like him only toned down slightly and not biting out of the blue.

So don't take it like you did anything wrong as you didn't it is just cockatoos:) and I can feel your pain as this is what I get calls about the most and work with the most.

great news...Mikey is gonna adopt Keiko

Yay Mikey !! Hip Hip Hoorah. You r an angel. :21: :):p:D:30:

Heather --see sometimes things just happen for a reason that it takes a little bit of patience to finally see why. You can feel good knowing that Keiko is going to a great home.

I know it can take years for him to calm down, it took years for Dixie to calm down. But when my neighbor Carol came to visit all of them the other day I noticed Java was acting different, he went head over heels for her the moment he saw her. From the last two owners I've been told he prefers females and when I saw how he reacted to Carol I knew he would be better off with a female. But after I talked to his previous owner tonight as I told her in a nice way that she mustn't smoke around him ever. As he was going through a with drawl from the beginning and started plucking. He have since grew them back nicely. I have changed his diet to a better diet that she couldn't do in 7 years, she agreed with that completely. She's very excited to have him back and I know she loves Java dearly as I can see in her eyes when she was giving him up. I had an agreement with her if I were to give him up, she's the first person I contact. But I make sure I made my point across the importance for her to stick to what I've done with him for his health as I went through the list of food I feed and he learned to like spray bath as he hates shower. I'll be over to visit Java to see how he is with her and if she's still smoking around him. I really do care and love Java dearly as I don't want him going back to his old routine she had with him before. I worked hard to get him off his bad habit so she needs to stick to the routine.
