Well everyone about 6 months ago I had to give up my female Eclectus for personal reasons. (Link to thread with adoption story
http://www.parrotforums.com/eclectus/47678-meet-mrs-bixby.html)

But, since everything has settled down and in the right position to have a parrot I went ahead and adopted a Catalina Macaw that needed a new home. She has not been dna'd yet but the old owners that have had her for 6 years said she is a female so for now we will keep it that way. I do plan on getting her dna'd in the future tho.

Just wanted to share some picture's with the community! Her name is Tequi.

Congratulations, John!!!! Tequi already looks quite at home with you!

Maya and Bixby say hello!

Oh, yes! She's added her name, "Good girl", and "Mom!" (No doubt picked up from my boys calling out incessantly to Aida. Hahaha!) to her repertoire! Yes, she's still a yapper!

Does Tequi talk?

What a beautiful macaw! Her colours are wonderful :) Congratulations on your new addition!

haha thats awesome dude!!! I miss her cute lil noises she use to make lol.. Glad she is still the yapper for ya!

She is actually the quietest parrot I have ever encountered, she NEVER screams. The only thing she currently says is hello when the phone rings and she laughs when other people laugh, its hilarious.......... lol

Thank you so much!!

Tequi is a real beauty, Congratulations to both of you. Thank you for sharing.

Another mush mac... beautiful bird!

When their needs are met, they're not that loud. They become loud when they have been trained to scream, or their attention needs have not been met.

Obviously, I am a mac person. They're amazing birds.

Come on! I know you've got more pics than that! Keep 'em coming!

Congratulations! Tequi is stunning:)

She is beautiful !

Thank you!!

I purchased her a light (featherbrite, parrot specific) after doing some research, it seems without these bulbs or major natural sunlight daily that they are missing out on necessary UVA and UVB. Anyone else use these bulbs?

There are some people here who use those. If you don't get a response here, try posting a thread about it.

I've always heard the controversy about how after a while, the lights lose their "full" spectrum, and we can't tell at what point that is... where it just becomes a light bulb.
I'd imagine it's better than nothing though, even when the spectrum starts running out. If you go by the manufacturer guidelines on how msny hours to use, I'm sure it's fine. I might get some soon too.

Yea, well i've done tons of research and I haven't heard anything negative about the bird specific bulbs, it really seems like these lights should be over every bird cage. And yes, the bulbs do need to be replaced yearly at the minimum, as they do eventually lose there UVA and UVB output.
