Quick help (GRAPHIC images enclosed)

I'll let Stephen weigh in on the illegal ones if he's allowed to disclose the info on the open forum at this time, as this may be an active investigation still. :)

Thanks Wendy. And really all I can say is that there are specific registration guidelines for owning and breeding Queen of Bavaria Conure. This individual ignored those.

And you can't leave your animals in a filthy mess and expect to get away with it.

You'd be surprised how many people do... get away with it, I mean.

Sounds like a hoarder/wanna be breeder but don't wanna do any real work type situation.

QOB's are supposed to be permit only birds...

There are new restrictions on BTM's now... so he will be questioned on how he came to have those...

What ever that dead, red thing is, it's obviously been there awhile. Ummm.... EEEEWWWWW....

I've actually seen grosser living situations than that in some of the hoarder calls I went on. I NEVER WANT TO GO ON ANOTHER ONE AS LONG AS I LIVE, THANK YOU!

Disgusting is being generous.

Those of us who slack off and only clean once or twice a week, might be feeling a little less guilty after this.

The blue throats were so wild. Seriously, they would lunge at the cage HARD every time we walked by. I thought they were going to hurt themselves.

(1) they obviously haven't been handled, because they are one of the most docile of the bunch; and,

(2) that cage is too small to house a pair. So they're "trapped" in a confined space and developing a panic disorder... and becoming aggressive to boot.

THANKS AGAIN CAPT. OBVIOUS!

Sadly, this was the condition of somewhere around 75% of the macaws I ever worked with... which is where their bad reputation comes from.

IT'S A HUMAN CAUSED PROBLEM... Your bird doesn't act like that. Mine don't act like that. We have quite a number of "mush macs" on the board that don't act like that...

BECAUSE (HELLO!) WE DON'T TREAT THEM LIKE THIS!!!

On some levels it really is psychological torment to take an attention oriented social creature like these and confine them in a small space without attention...

Actually most folks do, unfortunately.

Those are supposed to be in conservation breeding pairs. Not for sale as pets.

Don't know what else he had, but having them is one thing... having them and abusing them?! That tends to be a way the animal control enforcement people can throw the book at you.

I'm very happy they they got those poor animals out of their, but what will stop him from having more in the future?

In the US, if animals are being removed by law enforcement, the owner will be given a court date to 'visit' with a judge. Evidence will then be presented to this judge, and he/she in turn will decide whether this person is allowed to have animals.

I'm pretty certain charges were pressed against the person our Stephen talked about, especially since he was housing animals that are illegal to be kept, and animals he needed special permits for.

Awww that makes sense. Glad to here! Someone like that doesn't deserve animals!!

Mark, I see the Queen of Bavaria's for sale regularly at (you know which bird stores in SoCal). He breeds them and sells at all his locations here. I think they're an upstanding business with a good reputation, so I'm sure if you buy one there, there are extra forms to fill out?

Ah ok, thank you. I didn't know what they were. I just looked them up. I have seen pictures of them before but thought they might have been a type of rare macaw! We probably wouldn't have them here if they are vulnerable/threatened/endangered species. Stunning birds though.

Now this part I knew.

In the corse of my employment I do come across homes where I see different types of animal abuse or neglect and in each case I refer it to the RSPCA which is the body that deals with these issues here.

I could be wrong. I could be going on old information.

There was something I just read about them being de-listed in Spring 2015, which I was not aware of. So, maybe they're not permit only birds anymore...

I know they used to be.

Interesting Mark, I've seen his QOBC for sale for many years every season. They regularly have a variety of 'rare' species in their stores.

Stephen I'm so relieved to know that your taking action has resulted in the confiscation of the animals. I hope the owner receives the punishment deserved!

I've always assumed that since the rules are vary rarely enforced, people take their chances and openly sell them anyway. Those are fairly expensive conures.

Very pretty too...

A friend of mine had a breeding pair, and they seem like they would be fun (but those were breeders, and didn't really interact with people, so I never really got to play with them.)

QOB cannot be sold across state lines without having a permit by Fish & Wildlife (that's nationwide). Many states additionally require a special permit for simply keeping them, a separate permit for breeding them, and yet another one for selling them within state.

.....

You ought to ask him about those permits, Julie. Of course I don't know California law. I know Jersey is as strict as judge Judy. :D

What? Being locked up for years in the unibomber shack, with no plumbing, crappy food, and green water, walking around in his own excrement?!

I'm pretty sure they don't do that to people here in this country... but it certainly happens to the birds enough!

A little "empathy training" might go a long way with these people... but hey, this guy lived with decaying rodents, and animal waste all over the place, so, apparently that wouldn't be entirely new for him... he's not exactly...

I MEAN EEEEWWWWWW!

Horrific:( So glad those birds are being taken out of that situation. Thanks for what you have done.
