Hi. I am owned by an almost 9 month old Hahn's Macaw and recently took in my dad's 20 year old Cockatiel. My dad is 88 very ill and failing and we took his Tiel as he was not able to properly care for him anymore. We got him a larger cage, like for a conure, new toys, a good bath a d new diet. We have had him now about two weeks and he has adjusted great. I have his cage in Hahn's bird room across from Hahnn's cage. I never leave themout together, most of the time Hahnna is out and the Teil in the cage, when I am workong. When I get home I take Hahnna with me and let the Teil out to play on the gyms etc. and then at night I have one one one side of me and the other one on the other side and we watch tv all together. In the morning, I make a chop and put it on a plate and let them share it together with me right there. My Hahn's has shown no aggression, just will open her beak to him or tug on his tail. I amwonderong if it is possible to do more of an introduction such as lettng them both sit on the gym together, without a risk to the Teil. i have socialized dogs etc. but have never had two birds and there is such a size difference between the two p,us the fact that the Teil is old. He seems to enjoy her company but will hiss and raise his hair out of fear when she opens her beak. The beak thing seems to be more of a tease, like a brother givng his younger brother a pop in the arm, but I am no expert. i know Hahnna, wants to climb on the Teils cage and nudge past him to get in his cage and explore. He does not seem to mind. i am always right there. i am just wondering if I am better off bot allowing too much interaction, as the Hahn's havesome beak with that point and even a nip I am afraid will really damage the poor old man. He has not had too much of a life the poor guy. Had a home for 18 years then was given away in a tiny cage that he shared with a parakeet. He was give. To my dad two years ago. Dad took care of him, but not like he should. He was not educated on what they need so he followed along with what he thought, the poor guy has been fed Walmart Cockatiel seed and the cage was more for a parakeet then a Teil. I tried to educate him and would go over to make sure he was fed etc. but you know at "86 he was set in his ways. Now at 88 he is really failing and has been in and out of the hospital and not doing well so he finally let me take him home with me and we are trying to give the Teil a good life for whatever time he has. Thanks for your thoughts on this. i don't want himto get hurt and I dont want to upset Hahnna and it would be nice if they could be friends and share out time. Thanks, Elaine, Hahnna and now Cricket.
