Forgive me if I am wrong but I have searched the forums (and internet) to some extent and I can not seem to find a lot of information and/or stories about the princess (of wales) parakeets.

If anyone has experience with these birds, I would love to hear your stories. I have been researching these birds for some months now and I am considering bringing one into the family once I have settled into my new home. However, I would like to make an informed choice.

Its one of those birds you don't see around very much nor hear a lot about. There was one available in my area not long ago. Its not one I want to get into. They're beautiful and all, but not on my wanted list. Good luck finding info on them as they are a rare find!

I found a princess of wales parakeet at a rescue not far from where I live (at least in the same state). However, she is missing her upper beak and that concerns me. The rescue center states that she is doing well otherwise. Has anyone had experience with a bird that is missing their upper beak?

It seems to be rather difficult to find breeders for this particular species of bird but I read somewhere that their breeding season is not until September, so it could just be to early in the year for these birds. I am definitely intrigued by what I have read so far about the princess parakeet. Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome!

Very beautiful bird from Australia. Not too many in USA. I would inquire about how a bird does when missing part of the beak. There is a Macaw I know of that was missing her upper bead from an accident and had to be tube fed by the owners.

Poor dear. I will email the rescue group tonight about it and see what they have to say. On the website she's listed as special needs and that she needs soft food.

I heard back from the rescue group and from what they said, while she is missing her entire upper beak, she does not need to be tube fed. They also said that she enjoys a variety of soft foods, which leads me to think that she eats well enough despite her handicap.

Are you thinking about adopting her???

I am thinking about it yes, though.. with this being my first bird, I'm not entirely sure. I want to do right by the bird and be able to give any bird that I bring into the family the best home possible.
