The chicken has had a somewhat lonely week. We had off work this week due to the holiday, so decided it was a good time to lay down laminate flooring and get rid of the carpet. I hate carpet. Anyways, the house has been almost completely torn apart. Furniture piled in the few rooms we weren't doing, ripped out carpet, new flooring, and tools in the rooms we were doing.

Needless to say, the poor chicken didn't get much time out of her cage this week. I took her out for a little each day, but I didn't have a whole lot of time if we wanted to get the floor in before we go back to work tomorrow. And being the mean parront I am, I wouldn't let her hang out on her stand at all either. She thinks I was being mean, but with the floors all tore up, I thought the risk was too great. If she were to get on the floor, who knows what she would have put in her mouth, or with exposed staples and stuff, what she could have seriously hurt herself on.

She did at least get to watch us and talk to us while we did the floors. Since it is just floating laminate, once the carpet was ripped out, I didn't see any harm in her cage being near us. We didn't use any glue or chemicals. When we had to cut flooring, we designated a specific room away from the birds to do it in so the dust didn't bother them too much. There was still dust everywhere, but we couldn't cut anything outside with it raining half the week. She talked up a storm, though, and said a few new words. She is getting more comfortable talking when we are in the same room as her, so I figure that's a win.

Plus, I think she was happy that I at least slipped her some extra treats since I felt bad that she was locked up far more than she should have been. I figured, though, that being locked up for a week was better than her possibly getting seriously hurt or sick from something on the exposed floor.

I am certain that Pretty Chicken will really like the new floors and so will her family!

Vacations, more work than they are worth, at least most of the time! Great project, your going to like it.

NOTE: Really, really make sure that the floors are super, super clean! The smallest little thing will show!

I know, that's the only thing that I don't like about them. You can see a single speck of dirt across the room. However, between the two dogs and the birds, the carpet looked dirty even when it was clean. At least these floors are much easier to clean. I won't miss scrubbing chop out of the carpet, that's for sure.
