SAMMY is a 3 1/2 year old male cockatiel. He sings and whistles and is very sweet and sociable. He loves his neck and chin scratches and will let you do it for ages. He has no fear of strangers and will so******e with anyone. His wings are not clipped, giving him the ability to fly around the house, which we make sure is safe for him. He doesn't like to be left alone and away from the action.

DUNCAN is a very sweet 17 year old yellow collared macaw. He steps up well. Likes to snuggle in hair. He's learning to play with toys, seems to prefer preening toys, strips of leather, cotton & sisal rope. Loves walnuts & blueberries. Will call out loudly "come 'ere" if he ends up on the floor, otherwise is fairly quiet.

DYLAN is a 16 year old female Moluccan cockatoo. We affectionately call her Dilly. She is extremely busy and needs lots and lots to do, especially things to chew up. She also likes to be involved in the activities of the family, which is only fair, since our birds are members of our family! Dylan will benefit from lots of activities and not so much snuggling - another good approach to living successfully long-term with a cockatoo.

CECIL is a 26 year old male blue and gold. True to nature, he is boisterous and fun, super duper smart, and definitely prefers to spend a large part of his day out of the cage. And for the time he does spend in a cage, he is enjoying a 64" x 32" one so we wouldn't want him to live in anything less. If you are looking for a companion that will inspire you to have lots of fun, mentally and physically, then Cecil is looking for you!

RAZZIE loves kids and will entertain them for hours. Each morning, she eats a banana or apples with peanut butter. then she moves on to her regular diet. She usually goes to sleep around 8:30pm at the same time as the kids and wakes up around 7am. She loves music especially the hamster song. She currenly enjoys the opportunity to have her cage open at all times expect for sleeping.

SONNY, a 7 year old sun conure, and LOUIE, a 8 year old jenday conure are a fun team! Sonny is flighted and enjoys following you room-to-room. It would be kind to let him stay flighted, so he needs a safe-concious household, probably without other pets. Louie is very attached to Sonny, and they are best friends; so we would like them to be adopted as a pair.

FRICK and FRACK, another adorable pair, but they're like an old married couple. They teach each other things too -- because modeling is a great way to learn new behaviors (are you a good role model for your bird?). For example, Frack helps Frick to feel less timid around people, and Frick shows Frack how to try some new healthy foods like veggies, grains and legumes. They are an inseparable pair, and we're glad they have each other.

OUR WISH LIST: New toys; OTT lights; grocery store cards for the Catawba shelter and Landing birds (both under our direct care in NC); auction items; blog stories; 8164 Avery labels; and storage for donated cages.
New DVD: AVIAN FIRST AID Available at our events or on our store web page. This video is a comprehensive presentation designed to teach owners how to properly handle a pet bird emergency, written and presented by Dr. Greg Burkett a Board Certified Avian Veterinarian with 17 years experience in avian medicine.

This video discusses how to recognize and prepare for an emergency, how to restrain a bird, and includes a complete list of items needed to assemble an avian first aid kit. Dr. Burkett also describes how to set up a home hospital cage and discusses in detail the common emergencies and describes the first aid needed in each situation. Such emergencies discussed include animal attacks, bleeding, burns, egg binding, and many others. Every bird owner needs to be aware of these potential emergencies and be familiar with how to stabilize their bird.

STEP-UP! (Skills To Empower People to Understand Parrots)
Join us in 2010 for one of our intensive workshops, designed to give people an abundance of information about parrot care from behavior and health, to nutrition and enrichment. In addition to a diversity of lectures and discussions, there will be hands-on training sessions, cooking classes, and time to address issues of specific importance to you. We will work with the current foster birds at the Landing, so you can teach behavior, foraging and feeding new foods first hand, and learn to put those skills to practice with your own birds. Anyone with parakeets to macaws will benefit!
April 16-18; August 20-22; or November 12-14
