Penny is sick, I've been holding back making a thread

I've been away and had to catch up since page 5 I think. I agree with Saxguy, what a roller-coaster ride for you and Penny Laura! Please accept this advice gleaned from my past medical career, ALWAYS assess the patient first, equipment can fail or not tell the true story. I'm hoping that it is a glitch in the scale but why not feed everyone some 'extra' calories as the whole flock has been stressed by Penny's illness??

The new scale confirms, and actually they weigh the same on both scales !! Penny didn't loose weight till she was so sick and nit eating. Im pretty sure I weighed the whole flock on 30 ir 31 , just because Penny was sick to make sure they were OK. But I can't find that page, but I remember they were all normal, so this is in the last week they lost weight . So they have been stressed and change in routine. But still.... I did find just before Christmas weights and all were normal.
Everybody was happy to be out today, are veggies great. Poops good
I can hear them all chowing on the extra seed I gave them, crack cracking those seeds!

Edit: feel so much fear, and uncertainty, they shouldn't have all lost weight!!!! At least I don't think so, even with stress???, Orbit is 92 down from 96, Pikachu was 115 now 108...but those two don't have clear trends in my records, Orbit has 2 past weights at 92, Pikachu was only 115 once his highest and last weight, trends 104-110, but when taken together they sll lost.

Vet, no chances, all go on medication tomorrow.
Ughh......just no , i can't have all my babies sick!!@
Ideas. Vet says so many things and everything tends to cause weight-loss. She often treats all the birds in a home even if only one shows signs of being sick. Maybe other would clear it and never get sicker. But best treat em all.

Laura, I'm so sorry this is happening. Fingers crossed for your flock to get through it without issue. Hope some extra calories in the diet helps to get everyone back to normal base weight. Hugs to you my friend.

I'm hoping its just being caged for a week, and they all ate less. After I weighed them and had them out they ate great. Ate extra seeds great. They all start medicine tomorrow regardless. But maybe all my freaking, and they stressed and stuck in cages and just didn't eat???,
I just had Tadah out for mommy and me, as is our special time. She flew to snack bowl at Play stand and was chowing. She never does that, maybe finally getting attention, making her eat.....
I hope for that. I'm 100% stressed.

OMG I just noticed you posted this thread, I normally don't like to read downer news but then I saw you posted it.

I need to read from the start.... I'll brb.

OK I'm caught up....

Normally I don't click on medical issues, diet issues or bereavement issues because I am an idiot in all of that. All I know is what I've been told here basically. I lean towards the soft science of behavioral, bonding, new members, etc. Since I know a little about that.

I feel like a heel for not noticing you were going through this while I was talking about bringing Scuti into my life.

I can say this the people telling you about the what ifs? are correct.

Also I can say this is the MOST informative thread on parrot health I have ever read and have learned more in the last 15 minutes about bird health than in the last 3-4 years with clark, zod and now scuti.
your
I am searoulsy misty right now from what your going through (reason why I don't normally click on these threads, because I can't help). But I am so pulling for your entire flock right now and I hope everything is going to come out alright for your entire flock.

I also hope the loss in weight from the other birds is them just picking up on your stress. Be attentive, but please relax. My birds know my mood. Be the flock leader. Keep the meds up, whatever the vet says.

Thank you so much for your help.....expert.

Penny slept in, and I could not get her eat any peas, or egg, or oatmeal, or bsby ( people),food

So I got her out for hand feeding baby burd formula . Lol its like that was what she was waiting for! Ate 4ml. Then escaped me went to budgie millit bowl and started eating some of that@. Uh not like half her bowl in her cage has this or anything!

Right nose wet and draining, rubbing face a lot, but keeping right eye open!!!

Before feeding, gained one gram . At 98 grams

Much brighter mentally. Eyes not so dull. She is not so listless.

Normal poop, and poops more often since hsnd feeding formula started, because she was starved before few poops.

She just flew to me for snuggle, very happy girl this morning. Hoping this is the start of the charge towards wellness!:

Here she is! Right eye open! Right nose wet abd rubbed feather away so can see right nostril peak out . Might be hard for yiu all to see. Anyway still fluffed a little hunched, but much better this morning!:

Nostril really draining, she really digging at it. Squinting again, and worn out. Sinusitis hard to treat in burds sometimes. Vet us having me start steamy shower room treatments, warm compress, snd saline flushes

Have you created a baby formula monster? Lol! Weight going up even just a little is definitely a positive sign. She does look a little brighter in her eye there. Yay! Keep going, little one. You got this!

Hey, from a fellow sick baby parent here!

I genuinely wish you and Penny the best, it's tough and overwhelming. I've had a similar struggle with water where they'd just perch on the water bowl overnight and drink from the poopy water (ew!), which obviously upset their stomach. Thankfully I managed to combat that with placing the bowl in a "less comfortable" spot.

Having read some of your posts in this forum there's 0 doubt in my mind that you're an amazing parrot-parent! Great recovery wishes from our flock to Penny <3

What a little fluff ball, I just want to snuggle her. Glad to hear she is brighter this morning. Normal poops are good, means food is leaving her crop to get digested. Here's to more signs of consistent recovery!

Only have veterinarian or under veterinarian advice. Note head is tilted down, to help avoid aspiration. And is some cases veterinarian isn't going to advise this as may bush bacteria into different parts of airway and body. Penny has been on antibiotics for 10 days. Thats why vet will now have me do this. Please follow and work with certified avain veterinarian.

Noodles had to have hers flushed at one point after antibiotics, and that was the time when the vet-tech let her head move and she got in trouble lol-- I am not sure my experience with this was normal, but it was weird for a bit after (please do keep asking vet any questions if behavior changes, but know that it can sometimes be an odd experience).

I just gave meds to half the flock. What a different experience those tongues are so strong!!! Lol pushing away the syringe! Everyone bit me hard to....such is life..
Penny is having greate poops, no more scant fecal or no poops really needed to hsve started formula sooner.
And look seed hulls!!! Somebody been snacking on her own!! More urine than if she wasn't on liquid diet. But clear, normally urates normal
Second picture Some poops pictures, are from early on scant fecal, urine tinged green or brown/yellowish. Not normal, a sign of infection. Less fecal matter cuz eating way less. After that fir a while I rarely had poops and even less fecal matter. But worth noting that after azithromyacin the urine became clear again, even if fecal matter was scant.

Just treated all the budgies, Cloudy still 42 normal 44 grams, also has stains above nares, he hasn't had that before that i remember.... Blue Boy down 1 gram to 39 grams, Clear never weighed before is 45 grams . Orbit is up 2 grams to 94, Ta-dah was up 1 grams to 69 ( she is always 74 normally )

Cloudy steps up to hand now from top of my head, and I think said hello tonight!!! Pic from tonight can see slight discoloration above each nostril, which can indicate a respiratory, ir sinus infection.

Thank you Lamanuka! It does help so much! Sadly that picture with wet nostril was taken a little after the brighter picture. Squint, draining, ugh, she us up and down. But slowly better for sure, sleeps less, no wing drops or perch stumbles, since hsnd feeding formula better poops, seems brighter, and eyes aren't sunken like were getting. Sleeping 75-80% of time now, better than 90-100% before
