I’m one of those crazy neat freaks too that has 4 very messy parrots who don’t care about their adequacy. One day they may change their ways, and not throw food on the walls and floor. I’m holding out hope.Looks a lot like my Peachie. She likes her pellets shaken, stirred and then chucked on the floor!!![]()

So you are an extreme optimist?I’m one of those crazy neat freaks too that has 4 very messy parrots who don’t care about their adequacy. One day they may change their ways, and not throw food on the walls and floor. I’m holding out hope.
I feed my parrots Harrison’s as well. I know it just went up in price here. Shipping isn’t cheap either. Because I have 4 parrots I need to at least get the 5lbs bag. I’ve thought about the 25lbs bag but wasn’t sure about the shelf life. With the cost of things I wouldn’t exactly want to waste that.My viewpoint is more an economical one than a "crazy neat freak" one. Peachie and the 'tiels eat TOPS and Harrison's, which are probably double the price here in Oz as in the States. I know they ingest more than they chuck but sometimes it's like watching dollar signs ending up on the floor!!
My males aside from Nico (he’s just different) are rambunctious. They escape cages. They undo all of the clasps that hold their toys to top of their cages just for fun. My female is more hesitant about things, and has a softer personality. She doesn’t just fly out of her cage. She looks around first, and doesn’t stray far away.I have 4 female budgies that share a large cage and someone throws all the food on the floor of the cage without fail every day. The 4 males in an identical cage never do this. Go figure!

Are things more expensive out of the states? I’ve been mentally curious about that.
I can’t find harrison’s here in pets stores either. They just started selling at one of the large pet store chains within the last month. I had to order it online direct with $30 shipping. It was for a 5lbs bag. I’ve debated changing their pellets because of the costs but they all eat it. Some days I don’t feel like arguing with the parrots. They think they are professional food critics. It’s hard to find a good quality pellet especially with some of Nico’s needs. Not only more expensive but sometimes harder to get. TOPS isn't to bad availability-wise, but Harrison's has maybe 3 retailers here who stock it and because it's only made in small batches it sells out pretty quick. I just managed to score another two 1 pound bags this morning though so now I have five stocked up before they sell out again![]()
Don't know why but I assigned 0.25$/per Harrison pellet thrown on cage floor. Food dishes had a damage % assigned per floor drop. I searched and searched for a CAG drop resistant dish & pellet saver. Finally found a clear plastic parrot food box. Significantly less waste! Too bad only small parrot, budgie ones are readily available now. I wish I'd gotten another one for back up.
There's the large clean clear plastic covered bird feed boxes. Problem is that they work best for a disassember. Those individuals who like figuring out how to remove from cage. Chewers esp of plastic these don't last too long. I found that a smaller amount of food is best. No matter what pics show there's gonna be an odd bird out. The ones that like to stand not on perch but in food. So food + poop = trash! My disassembly expert now waits till unobserved and on cage top. She then unhooks one side. Fortunately gravity, weight and angle has hindered crashing on cage floor. There's similar brands out there. Because of CAG experience I am reluctant to experiment with these sl different brands. I did use to twist a small amount pellets, treats etc in paper cupcake dish, put several in feed cup and twist a coffee filter over dish. CAG still loves this. I did too until she started shredding the paper without tasting food.View attachment 78586
I know I wish these bowls could be fastened. He loves “helping” with feeding time. Cleaning time where we can rip magazines out of my hand just to destroy them is even more fun. I didn’t know I needed a parrot supervisor named Blue.
