I don't know about your birds but my birds smell fantastic! Why is that? I mean they really smell nice. I only spray them with plain water, never use any form of wash or bird soap, but they smell so nice.

Haha I too love the smell. I have never looked into why they smell but have noticed that different species definitely smell different from each other. All of them smell good though :) Almost 'calming' if I had to describe it. Sounds ridiculous haha, but that is the first word that comes to mind.

I know! My friends thought I was weird so I made them smell hem, now they know.

I swear my Amazon smells almost like peanuts or something, I can't figure it out!

To me they have a smell like a newborn baby
NOT the same smell, but the birdie smell
I love the smell after showering Mishka, when he is dry

oh my goodness, i had to click on this as soon as i saw "parrot smells". i LOVE that smell. i always have too.
the bird hospital where i take my birds used to have a full pet store with birds for sale and it is so close to where i live, i just went to hang out and visit the birds sometimes....i said i loved to SMELL the place. hahaha
my dogs actually smell really good too though. mine don't have the 'frito' smell but more of a soft buttery smell (oddly enough i think they smell a little like the shea cashmere stuff at bath and body works.....'your lotion smells like my dog' isn't really a huge compliment on the surface, is it?? hahaha)

When we got Greenie he had a very unpleasant smell but he smelled a bit better after a shower the next day.
Haven't smelled Odin... and not getting my face near enough to Salty to try

My birds smell like fresh hung laundry outside. It's weird how great hey smell with no effort on my part. Maybe it's because I have a humidifier going full blast in their room?

OK I thought I was just weird, but Mango also smells great. Like a mix between laundry and something yummy. I cant really describe it. Sometimes he smells like whatever fruits or veggie hes been eating. Today he smells like cantaloupe and yesterday he smelled slightly like apples and red peppers. There's more though, like an underlying birdy body odor, only good.

Birds always smell great! My conures smell like fruit smoothies, and my galahs have always smelled like chocolate peanuts!! I haven't come across a bird that has smelled bad. Lorikeets probably smell the least nice but still dont have an unpleasant odour. The only reason I dont like lorikeet smell as much is because it has a slight "dead ant" smell to it.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of Fargo!
and weirdly enough, my mums little maltese cross dog has the smell of a parrot too! no idea why, but its great :p

Yes I know what you mean, My two Hahns have a fresh nutty odour. They spend a large potion of their day preening each other and also help clean each other if one has gotten full of fruit juice or covered in seed dust after forraging their feeding bowls.

I think the smell originates from the oils secreted from their preening glands on the lower part of their back (I'm new to handling birds as my previous 'biddy' was a beautiful Golden Mantled Rosella called Rainbow who did not like being handled at all).

It's quite funny as When I first had the birds last month, I was cuddling them both and they were eating me alive lol, I noticed this limp on their lower backs and got worried and started thinking they had some form of cancer or illness. Much to my humiliation my good friend (who breeds bids) laughed and told me what hey were, Phew. I'm still being teased but the boys lol

I was just talking about birdy smells the other day lol! :)

Audrey smells AMAZING xD Like a fruit/floral perfume, I love it :)

I've always found amazons specifically to have a wonderful, fresh kind of scent. I can't really think of a way to describe it, but it actually smells really good. I also swear my BFA has got to have a way to produce the smell in accordance with his emotions, because when he's happy and preening, you can smell it stronger. I have always wondered if that was just my imagination, or if other people noticed this as well?

^ Probably has to do with the preen gland, possibly producing more oil?
