Hey guys. My Kakariki for some time has been scratching his head a lot. The first time he started it he was first time molting and giving him more baths helped but now nothing really works. I give him veggies, fruits, and mostly seeds, he bathes 3 times a day, i checked him for red mites and i didnt see anything i think, he isn't stressing over anything and doesn't seem to be bored, i even started throwing a wet blanket on the radiator. I don't know what to do. He's getting balder and he bit off a few smaller feathers from his wing. I couldn't get any better pics but this might help. Tomorrow i'll be phoning the third vet this week to ask if he's able to come check him out, but his website didn't say anything about him being able so i'm expecting the worst. Do you know what more could i do to find out what's wrong with him? I'd really appreciate some help

Welcome to the forum to you and your Kakariki, he’s very cute even if his feathers are a bit ragged :)

Not sure what you mean by calling a third vet to see if he can come and check him out, do you mean you want the vet to make a house call? Is there a particular reason you cannot take your bird to see a certified avian vet? It’s very difficult to diagnose an issue like this via the internet as we are unable to take the requisite skin, blood or faecal samples needed to make a correct diagnosis. If you let us know where you’re located we may be able to help you find an avian vet in your location. If you do have difficulty getting your bird to a vet, you may find one who is willing to do a phone or webchat consultation for you.

I hope you’re able to find a solution for your little one.
