Blue and gold macaw
Hi all!
I was given an 18 year old blue and gold macaw last weekend and at first things were a little Rocky. He would bite and I didn't know how to read his body language. Today I took him to get his nails groomed and we have been hanging out all day. Today has been an exceptionally good day for him and i. He hasn't bit me once and is even letting me scratch his head and under his wings. I have been very scared of him since he keeps biting me but for some reason today he finally opened up. Well... Now he's regurgitating on me. Is he doing this because we have a good bond now or what? Didn't really expect this to happen lol.

By the way, while you still have a little bit of time in your favor, look up everything posted by Birdman666! Your little guy is very soon going to try to become the boss of you!

He isn't biting any more. All that stopped today when he bit my arm and I pushed it to him. After that he just wants me to pet him. Is the regurgitating thing a control thing though?

Regurgitation is a sign of affection. It's a birdie I love you thing... offering to share a meal with you.

Update on raja, we went to the vet yesterday for his first time ever. He let's me hold him and pet him and today was the longest I've held him (3hours). He's a great fit and we are getting along awesome. I just had to learn to not be scared of his big beak behavior

WOW!

That is probably the fastest turn around from scared of him and biting and locking heads to buddies I've ever seen!

Sounds like you got a good companion!

Awww congrats on the turn around! Once he is bonded to you, you'll get more pinches than bites. And in my opinion, only bites after he pinches you a few times.

Regurgitation is a sign of affection- lucky you! Haha! Mine does it when we are cuddling ❤️

Hi yall, he is still pretty finicky and wants to only be touched on his terms but I gather that is normal. He screams and annoys my girlfriend but he lets me hold him pretty often and likes being pet.
