well where going slow but i did buy a few things at the pet store yesterday a dowl ladder made from the same kind of wood as her perchers wore and then a branch to replace her dowl pearches.....i did that because ladyhawk was constently lilfting one foot and stand on wood then changing which food she had on the pearch so i figured well maybe the round pearches wore hurting her feet other wise i would have just put the ladder in and nothing else....well she spent the rest of the day yesterday just standing on the ladder....this morning she has been moving around in her cage but she is avoiding the branch so .... she peaked at it with her beak a few minutes ago so ill just wait and see how she does on the up side the ladder helps her reach the toy she had at the pet store easer so i dont think shes terrfied of the branch as she playing with toy ill wait a day or two and she countues to basically avoid the branch i'll take it out and try an apple tree branch come summer..... maybe this on is to big..although most of the branches are no bigger then the pearches wore huummm?

She is just wary of new things which is normal. Don't keep changing perches around or she will never get used to one. Take a photo of the branch perch she's avoiding so we can tell you if we see any obvious problems with it.

Keep in mind that when birds are relaxing they often stand on one leg.

thank you i'll take a picture of it and hopefuly of her...the tag said it was for parakets cocatials parrolets and parrots.... but iv learn not to take those things for gospial.... and yes my parakets and cacatials often stood on one foot but for some reason it dosnt seem to be the same....she seems more agatated shaking her feet and constantly lifting her feet up and putting them down could be just a trait of parrolets but i havent read anything like that like i said i wouldnt have put 2 new things in her cage except for the way she was constangly lifting her feet up and changig which foot i was on the purch....but shes not doing that with the ladder which is strange as its made round like the perches wore....huummm im finding it a bit more diffacult to read her so to speak then it was the parrakests and cokatials.... she is walking around the cage and eating so it s possable she just needs to get use to it....or she just might not like the looks of the thing i have noticed when shes mad at me she sits with her back to me....when shes happy she sits so she can look at me.... right now she is defently not happy with me lol she HATES any kind of change....which i understand competely as i dont like any kind of change in my life and enverment either lol so we should eventually be a good fit for each other lol

If you think she dislikes change it's nothing compared to a grey

Weren't you planning to take her to the vet? Add this to the list of things to ask about.

yes im agoraphobic so nothing gets done real fast i unfrountly have to work up to it...spike did agree to call the vet for me and he will take us...i put the limb on the toy excange so anyone who wants it can have it.... i put her cage back the way it was or at least mostly i made the bigger pearch higher so she can get into and play with the big rings hanging from the top....i didnt want her to loose that...and she can reach her toy she had at the pet the pet store easer to.....since shes chirpping and playing i think shes happer now she still tries to bite me but she is learning if you bite mommy the spray mallet goes away....and she likes the ladder....thats it until spring when i can get to the apple tree then i'll make a small stand she can get on in one corner of her cage....if she likes it fine if not i'll just take it out.....i worry about her feet as the vido i watched says the round pearches are bad for there feet which is why i bought the branch looking thing but i can only do so much at a time she does have a little bird ball on the bottom of the cage and i put peaces of food of different kinds in the holes but so far shes not touched it but since it dosnt take up any room and dosnt seem to bother her i keep it in and just change the types of food i put in the holes...i might put some spray mallet in it and see if she notices it then if not well its there if she wants it and it get washed when i clean the cage anyway i cant stand next to the cage for very long at a time so i go over and talk to her and open the cage with spray mallet in my hand a few times a day i have copd and i think my coughing when im next to her cage annoyes her not much i can do about that..... but flutters over to the far side of the cage when i cough ....ahh well we do the best we can and maybe someday she'll get used it and know its not going to harm her...

lol and i doupt a grey hates change more then an agoraphobic lol but we all have our little qurkes lol which is why i dont really mind her not liking change and i know it will take TIME for her to get used to any change i might make...so i try to do everything slowly...only reason i got the branch is because in my reading it said the wood round dowls are bad for there feet and cause them pain but evendetly she likes the dowls better then that branch thing!

Yup, go slow. Anyone owned by a grey can sympathize with you. A good thing is using perches of sl different sizes and shapes. Then bird can choose what is comfortable. My CAG will stand on variety of her perch sizes. She has two favorites one used only for daytime napping the other for night-time sleeping. These are sl different types and sizes.

If you are agoraphobia, you need to make arrangements with a person who is comfortable leaving the house so the ladyhawk can get necessary vet care. She's dependent on you.

thats not a problem my hubby to be lives with me and he helps me every thing.... i also have 3 dogs and a cat and yes the dogs are all up to date on there shots and vet care the cat although a house cat is not the friendlest cat in the world...lol my youngest got her for me shortly after i got out of the hospital a few years ago a rescue dog draged me across the livingroom and i hit the corner of our footstool and broke the 6 ribs on my left side and punctured my lung i was layed up for almost a year we have a sleeper sofa so i was confined to that for quite awhile even after getting home from the hospital...amonge other animals i love cats so my youngest talked to spike and they got me one....shes more spikes cat then mine really because he had to take care of her while i was laid up... dont worry she is locked in her bedroom at night and anytime we are not in the house at least one of us....and yes i kept my rescue dog until last year when my beloved sheba died...( my service dog before zena) i had gotten another puppy and let them both out side to potty and to my horror the rescue killed the puppy....we took her to the vet and had her put down....it was the kindest thing i could do she was terrably abusied before i got her and i had thought i was getting through but i think that tragedy of loosing sheba and then the new puppy was to much for her.... 2 of my dogs are pets angle a ausiedoodle and kaiti a shizoo zena is a teacup yorkie who is being trained to be my service dog....she is doing great! with her i can go most every where with spike ( hubby to be) and im working on going to church just me and zena...right now i do it on line but if i can get the coughing under control we'll be attending in person...and in the summer i sometimes go outside with the dogs so its a start...ahh but im rambling and this is cerently more info then is proper im afraid but i want to make sure you know ladyhawk is and will countue to get the best care i can provide for her....as with all my animals...theres cat toys all over ivys bedroom and spike and i are forever stepting on dog toys i cant seem to train them to put there toys in there toy box!! lol although they do chew on toybox sides i made the sides to look like bones lol perhaps not my best idea lol

I understand that agoraphobia is difficult to live with when you must run errands and I sympathize. I'm glad to hear you have a good support network for yourself and your critters including the Ladyhawk. Don't wait too long to take her to an avian vet with any concerns. Delays can only hurt her.

yes i know....iv been sick the last few weeks a horrable chest cold which with the copd tends to knock me down a bit ...i tend to get sick when i go out espically in the winter spike says it s because i dont go out often enough he could be right but getting sick dosnt really make me WANT to try to get out more often lol a sort of paradox .... im going to ask him to call our vet tomarrow and see if she knows about parrolets and make an appoment..... iv had several drs appoments this past couple of weeks and a few more comming up but not till next month...we live in a small village so hopefuly my vet knows about parrolets....ladyhawk is my first parrolet iv had other birds but not a parrolet...so will see what she has to say

The good news is if he takes care of birds and is good the species of bird won't matter. The biology of a bird is the same. I hope he's not a dog cat only vet.
