Aww he looks very sweet. His beak could be feeling a little sore so be sure he is eating. Of course you can hold him but if you have all wood floors maybe put down some soft towels or rugs so it won't be as hard if he falls again. Baby birds are sometimes a bit clumsy. His wing feathers are obviously clipped. Did you ask the breeder if he was ever fledged?

Scary that you were in the hot zone there! I'm glad the guy was captured and the in-house orders are off.

on the other hand, i think he looks so much better then breeder's photo! specially after a bath :)

Yes, he looks wonderful compared to the breeders photo :D

Don't take anything personally. He's still getting used to things, most birds are a bit scared at first. I have a African gray, when I first held him he got scared and started flapping and dived at the floor :( I felt terrible! But now he is getting a little more at ease with me and he flutters to the floor now rather than dive.

It's ok if you don't hold him as much right now, just talking to him will let him know it's ok as he get used to his new home.

Maui's hatch date was 8/10...they r close in age. Everything that is happening to you happened to us. He still occasionally takes an awkward fall... But he is a happy bird:)

thank you! that is comforting to know!

he is sitting on my lap now, eating fruits and wathcing kids play :)) good life :))

Glad you got your baby home and that your neighborhood is safe now! Oliver is the exact same age as your baby and is quite the climber. I'm wondering if your ekkie was not transferred to a cage to learn how to get around before getting to you. I know making sure Oliver ate independently and was able to move around in the "big boy" cage" was a priority with the bird store before letting Oliver come home with me. He came to me in January and was able to climb and get around just fine.

she said he was in a cage...i dont remember the size, but we talked about the cage i should get and she told me the size of the cage, and it was comperable to what i was getting...

I am getting worried (again)..How can you tell if ekkie is preening or plucking? He had two grey areas on his chest yesterday, today he has 3 areas... is it normal for molting or not?

Youngsters often tuck their head forward down on their chest when they rest and sometimes that moves the green feathers so you can see the grey down.

He should go through first molt of head/neck around 6 or 7 months. Rest of body gradually follows with wings last at some point after a year to 15 months of age.

Stop worrying! There is no reason a juvenile bird will pluck.

i looked at the photos just now...his wings are supposed to be all red, right? I hope hope hope he is just molting :(

Oliver looks about the same as your baby under the wings--he is not all red and I believe they are the same age--yours was born 9-11-12 and Oliver was born 9-9-12. As for the yawn photo, I think it's adorable! Oliver and I play a yawn game. He yawns then I yawn then him and on and on until I cut it off---otherwise I'd still be yawning, hence so would he! :11:

I think he looks fine! The yawning photo is really cute! You can see how the grey is showing mostly right down the center where he was probably tucking his beak just like Kathy said.

He's most probably preening and they're coming out because he's yoinking them because they're lose. Right now, during the age and timing that he's molting, don't look at feather loss like it's through plucking or chewing. Give him a few weeks and he'll be tip top. They've got to get rid of old feathers for the new ones to come in.

If you are really worried you can take him to the vet to get bloods done etc, to look for any causes that might cause him to want to pluck.

Most pluckers, however, go for their chest first.

thank you!
yes, that's what i read, that they pluck the chest first...I will hope he is just uncomfortable and that's the reason...Also he was not borred at all when i saw him chewing that last feather, we all were in the kitchen, talking to him, he was on his tree...so nothing stressful or upsetting...
i've ordered travel cage as soon as it arrives i'll take him to the vet anyways...And while i wait for the cage i'll look for the avian vet, cause i don't think there are any in my area...
