Hi all.

I have a 3 1/2 year old galah and about a week ago i noticed that ahe was not acting as before. she is a really funny galah who keeps on flying around the house and interacts qith us. however this all auddenly atopped and ahe keeps on sleeping inside her cage.

i took her to the vet and he instructed me to give her 1 drop ganadexil in her mouth and 1.5ml nystan to prevent fungal infection. after 4 days she started to get better and the vet rold us to stop the antibiotic after 5 days.

now she is sick again and keeps on aleeping in her cage. our vet told us to take a blood test. any opinion on this?

meanwhile can i do something to help mu galah until the blood test? she seems to be scratching alot.

thanks

Hi, welcome to the forums, I'm sorry your galah is sick. Other than keeping her warm and comfortable, the only advice I can give you is to take her back to the vet for the blood test as soon as you can. Good Luck, I hope your galah feels better soon.

thank you for your post.

blood test is already scheduled for next monday however until then i am very worried.

most probably from what i can understand the problem is related to itching. in fact i have noticed blood between the wing and her back.

Frequent baths or showers from a mist bottle might help to relieve the itching. Have you called the vet's office, if you let them know how concerned you are they may be able to see you sooner.

Is your vet experienced with birds? Have they seen the blood on her back?

Blood work is an important diagnostic tool. Your vet may also recommend various cultures depending on how sick your Galah appears. As others have suggested, an avian specialist is really critical as they are so different from mammals.

I hope she feels better soon!

Ive had birds on medicine before [and it made them itchy]. lLook at this way your antibiotic might have given her a boost but wasn't strong enough to clear it up. So hopefully the vet can find something better. . What you can do ,keep them warm and hydrated. Serious about the warm part don't let her get chilled.
