Steven has never given me a day's trouble in his entire life; he does anything and everything I ask of him. He makes me so proud to be HIS mother.
I was thinking how I could ever say thank you to him......
Steven has been begging me for years to get a kitten. I always refused saying I am NOT a cat person and will never ever be. I have never really had any interaction with a cat, never been interested in them.
He has always loved and cared for Mishka. When I have been ill or not at home in time to feed Mishka he always steps in. He takes Mishka into the shower when showering and plays and talks to him daily.
My first priority was Mishka, firstly his safety, knowing how easily accidents can happen.
How would having a kitten around affect Mishka.
Would Mishka be a loving as his is, as he has been the only pet for 6 years. Mishka might become jealous not having all the attention for himself.
Would he be scared and petrified when sitting on my lap, or roaming freely in our apartment, in fear that the kitten could attack him at anytime.
Would he punish me and perhaps stop talking and refusing to have daily conversations with me.
The list was endless.....
I sat for many hours researching cats, getting every bit of knowledge that I could find on the internet. How to care for them, feeding them, their likes and dislikes etc. How to introduce a bird to a new kitten etc etc.
I decided Steven could get a kitten if he still so wished.
When telling him he was flabbergasted and could not believe it.
The expression on his face as priceless.
Steven is quite knowledgeable about cats, as many of his friends have cats and often gave them advice after doing some research.
On Monday this week Steven went to the SPCA and adopted a Tabby, a 7 week old kitten. Before the SPCA authorized the adoption, they had to come out and inspect our apartment. They were happy the kitten would be safe and secure, living in a clean and loving environment. When given the go ahead Steven went out and bought a basket, a scratch post, a litter box, food and bowls and quite a few toys.
When returning home from work this is what awaited me
I was totally in love with him from the first second.
He is so playful like a little Duracell battery.
He has settled in as if he has always lived here.
Thankfully after his first feed, he was shown the little box, did his deed and covered it.
Steven has named him Ringo, love the name.
Ringo had decided that he shares his sleep time with us both at night.
Steven has been shown threads where birds have been killed by cats and is very very cautious.
We have introduced Mishka and Ringo to each other slowly.
We are always on high alert especially when Mishka is out of his cage.
In the begining they both practically ignored each other and kept their distance.
They approached each other on the floor one night.
Both remained calm. (cant say the same for myself ) LoL
I was one side and Steven the other.
Ringo was lying near the fridge, Mishka walked straight past him, into the bathroom and said "Stevaliekie must go shower"
Ringo loves sitting on Mishka playpen, playing with his toys, while Mishka is playing or been feed yoghurt.
For the last three nights when Mishka ha been sitting on my lap, Ringo has been sitting right next to him purring away. They are quite comfortable just sitting near one another.
Mishka is getting as much love and attention as before, Mishka has not changed at all.
He continues to chat to me 24/7, asking me questions as usual. We continue with our training at night as before.
Now Mishka will have a friend and someone to talk to when we are at work!!!
