Luna is still not stepping up. She is close to it when using a short perch, she will stand on it but as soon as we try to move it she steps/jumps off.

Because of this I have been opining the cage door and leaving it open waiting for her to make the first move. Today she came out of her cage and made real progress.

Luna spent some time on the tree stand eating some of the treats we have in the bowl. After that she was trying to see Bingo and even attempted to fly from the tree to the top of his cage. This is dangerous for Luna because Bingo is very protective of his cage.

So I took Bingo out of his cage to see what would happen. No direct contact happened. They were about 5 or 6 inches apart but not on the same perch. I have to take this extremely slow as I don’t want either bird injured. Bingo wanted to go back to his cage so I put him back after being out 10 – 15 minutes.

I tried to put Luna back also but she was not done. She spent some time grooming on the tree. I went in to the kitchen for some reason or other and Luna flew to me and LANDED ON MY SHOULDER. You could have nocked me over with a feather LOL.

I managed to snap a selfie.

I am in my normal parrot handling clothes so I’m not looking my best here.

She did give me a good chomp on my ear but it did not break skin and she only bit me the one time. Luna flew to me 3 different times this morning.

She has trouble hanging on even though I walked as slow as I could.
I was able to get her back in the cage without toweling her. I sort of stuck my head in her cage while she was on my shoulder. She climbed on to the inside of the open door and I was able to close the door with her on it.

All in all it was a very positive experience for both of us. I think she will be more willing to come out of her cage the next time I open it up for her.

Luna still says “hello” and she has added “pretty bird” to her vocabulary. There is one other word she says that I am holding back in mentioning just in case her original owner ever shows up.

Wow, clearly some major steps forward with Luna! She will be controlling a major part of the home soon. WELL, maybe not that big, if Bingo has a say, and I got my money on Bingo! :D

I am absolutely positive now (I was pretty darned sure before), that I made the right choice of forever homes for my little foundling. She looks so happy and you have come so far with her. I'm just beaming like a proud grandma or something. :07::green1::07::green1:

"we" had no doubt Wes,that she'd come around with you! I mean, just look how far Bella has come! We're going to have to start calling you the Parrot Whisperer :p
And thanks to you too Beatrice, obviously you made the right choice in having Wes adopt her.
The picture of Luna on your shoulder ( and you with a smile ;)) is solid proof you'll be pal's for life. Well done, the both of you!!

new video

I recorded a short video of Luna talking and whistling. Was sitting right next to her when she was in a chatty mood.
I think it's real cute how she stretches up and the feathers of her cheeks puff out when saying "Hello"

Wow Wes..Luna is just simply adorable! Such a pretty girl :green1: :)
Looks to me she is pretty much happy and content in her new forever home.

An Amazon talking, has a unique voice to me,either a high pitched chattering or a low grumbling, compared to an AG.
It seemed to me,that my Smokes was a master in hooman speak. At times I could have sworn it was my mom speaking, especially when Smokey would yell out "JAMES!!!" ( my son's name also).
When Amy talk's,you know immediately that it is not a hooman, even though it is a pretty darn clear word/word's/sentence.
At any rate, bravo to BOTH of you guy's,and your entire family/flock!

How does Luna get along with your son?? Does he have the same repoire with Luna,as he does with Ms. Bella??

Luna is a real puzzle.
She is over the moon happy being next to Bingo. If I take Bingo out of her sight she screams until I bring him back. If Bingo sits on the far side of his cage (away from Luna) Luna will scream about that to.
Because of this I think she must have been housed with other amazons with her original owner.
Bingo is being stand-off-ish towards Luna. I think he does not know how to interpret her body language. When I hold Bingo close to Lunas cage she stretches up like when she is talking but she also spreads her wings in some sort of display.

Right now I am still worried about Bingos health. I noticed his breathing is sounding "bubbly" again. I will be calling the vet first thing in the morning (Saturday).
The avian vet I go to is a "one trick pony" in my opinion. He is always harping on the gram - bacteria. I am going to see if they can do a smear from his nares and see about the possibility of an x-ray to check his sinuses. I have also read that flushing his sinuses might be something that could help.

Luna has landed on my Son's shoulder as she did with me but she is still a hands off bird. It's going to take time to gain her trust.

I can confirm that Luna likes to be in the company of other amazons. We had her in quarantine for most of the time she was here, but she would definitely crane her neck looking for the other birds when they got loud. The few times we brought the other birds within her line of vision, she visibly perked up, and perked up more with the other amazons. Though Goofy has the world's biggest crush on Betty, and hardly noticed Luna. Poor girl.

Also, if you haven't already, Dr. J.'s office will happily transfer her records to your regular vet with just a phone call from your vet to them.

Here is a video of how Luna responds to being close to Bingo.

I think it's more "happy to see you" than threat display.

None of my female birds ever did this. Pacho the only female amazon would crouch/squat down and quiver her wings not spread them out.

Bingo was sitting on my shoulder and I sat down next to Luna's cage.

At around the 0.17 mark or so,it sounds like Luna is saying "step" and at 0.37 it's definitely "hello" in the typical 'zon low grumble :green1: Amy sounds just like that a lot :green:. With Luna talking and her excitement around Bingo, not being leery or frightened, she is fitting in quite nicely in such a short time, and with her flying to you and your son, more proof (at least to me) she is feeling very comfy with her new family :) She has plenty of servants to teach on how to do things HER way,and she has Bingo, and hopefully Ms Bella to boss around.
You're doing a great job Wes,with her AND Bella :59: Well done my friend...WELL DONE!
