Kevin in Greytown 2.0

RE how we will address snakes:

We are going to wrap the exterior with chicken wire twice to reduce chances of snake intrusions. Will alps examine morning and evening. Keeping it simple too. Snakes love places that offer ample hiding space.

I was going to write - Whats with the precautions about snakes? , but then I realized where Burundi is, right in the middle of the equatorial jungles of Africa. That area is home to an enormous variety (over 180 species) of snakes, both poisonous and non. In fact snake bite is one of the leading causes of death. So yah, I understand the precautions.

Thankfully I’ve only had a few snake encounters. Once had a pair of cobras fighting on the front porch when we were living in Zaire (now DRC). Also in Zaire, we found a large puff added passing by smoothly. Someone found him and cooked him up for dinner. And here in Bujumbura we had a boomslang in our bedroom - that one scared me.

Boomslangs are not as aggressive as cobras but they are not to be played with!

Yup, as I look out over Julio's backyard in its full summer greenery, knowing that there is likely a couple of snakes out there, along the edges. None bitters, all runners, 'the other way.' In a short few months that same view will be covered with snow and incased in freezing temperatures. I will remember the lack of bitters when its cold and blowing snow... I Hope, I Remember! :D

I like your solution, but as we both know, it is only as good as the daily inspection. After all, Kevin will not except anything less! :D

It is always so very difficult, yet heartwarming when the memories of our dear feathered friends roam though our minds. They inspire those moments of both a smile and warm tears.

It's these moments that prove how they so deeply set themselves into our hearts.

Huge Amazon Feather Hugs, Good Friend!

Kevin is absolutely stunning! I am currently reading this entire thread and your stories, pictures are fabulous! I love this idea!

Kevin eyeing my cup of coffee this morning. Found out he likes to sit and chill with me. Or, he’s just preparing to ask for huge upgrades on Greytown Towers.

Hmmm, is it the aroma of the coffee, the joy of spending time with thee or prepping for the upgrade requests???

Sometimes, it better to just believe it's spending time with thee! :D

I laughed at this one! I felt Kevin was being judgemental of the coffee.... like probably wonders why it’s not a latte..... or maybe I’m just projecting lol

I imagine Kevin’s coffee would be something like a grande double shot half soy half almond milk low foam white chocolate mocha with extra syrup [emoji23]

Better than coffee, roasted (plain of course) fresh maize.

The staff have outdone themselvesz

Exactly! I’ve been babying Kevv and picking off the kernels one by one and handing to him. He now takes it so gently from my hands. So scary (for me!) but I’m coaxing him to be gentle with the beak.
