just wondering if this if a good cage for a blue and gold macaw. to get a cage with a foot more height adds like 300+$ not that i wouldnt spend it but those cages also look like their legs are longer so its still in general the same size cage. To be honest once he is trained a bit i dont plan on keeping him in the cage much. i know a lot of people give them free range of a whole room or even the whole house with them. i plan on giving him the whole living room once he is trained and knows to poop in his cage.

here is the link to the cage i was looking at. i like the copper color but i was thinking it might cause distraction from his colors. it comes in 5 color pallets. any advice on which one to pic if not the copper is nice to :)

im really hoping this is a good cage for him. i want a corner cage and this seemed like the best option because it has more width then the taller ones i was seeing as well so he can spread his wings.

PLUS IT HAS LOCKS LOL

i could go to both links and to be honest they are all pretty much the same cage. the only difference is the one i posted and the second link you guys posted have 4 feeder bowls and the other has three.

like i was saying for an extra 6 or so inches both ways its close to 300$ more.. i added a foot onto my iguana cage and it hardly made a difference. thats kinda y i dont understand spending that 300 extra for that very tiny amount of added space. maybe im just crazy but even my mother the last time she came over didnt notice that the iguana cage was larger haha.

plus like i said i dont really plan on keeping him in it much. still not saying im not open to a larger cage i just feel since he will have pretty much a whole room most of the time that the one i picked would be ok i hope even though its missing those few extra inches.

i do like hearing peoples opinions and reasons as to y though. so i am completely open to them :) i am still learning about Macaws.

A B&G should be fine in the cage you posted, NO doubt about it. Both of my big guys are in 4' X 3' cages, but they are out about 6-8 hours a day. :)

thanks lol. i wasnt trying to sound rude. i just always speak my mind haha. i tried to explain myself a bit though......

im glad its a good cage though i want him to be happy. any good toys and suggestions you can make as to keep him happy so he doesnt lets say scream haha. my neighbors are used to my zoo but i dont want to make them to mad with his screams all the time and i know that if you keep them happy they dont usually do that. my tiels, if one of there toys is broken down and they want a new one its crazy. the swack till i replace it.

i really need advice on everything not just the cage. so anything you can give me. i feed the tiels more natural foods as well as their seed mix. any suggestions on a healthy fresh foods diet?

should be a fine cage for your B&G and congrats on getting one ive always wanted one :)

Oh i havent gotten him Yet. Just in the process

The little bit of difference does matter! Macaws have long tail feathers and if there isn't enough room for them to move around you'll find them with broken tail feathers or ruffled. Between my two macaws, Willie is bigger with longer tail feather so that depth matters while Lola isn't as much. Not saying that cage you've chosen wouldn't work but the bigger sized does better for a macaw!

I always felt that a rectangle cage was better for macaws as opposed to a corner cage because of their long tails? Macaw owners have any say about that?

I've seen them being kept in a large corner cage and have done very well. :)

I've seen big macs kept in those cages, and they were perfectly happy...

I don't like corner cages because there is not a lot of space they can use because of the v-shape in the rear and with their long tails, there is going to be wear and tear on them.

You said he would not be in it much when he learns to poop in his cage. You do realize they all don't go just in their cage, how are you going to handle that? Best to get a proper cage from the get go and one that has more usable space for the bird.

The poop wouldn't be what worry me the most. However the destruction from the giant beak would!!!

The cage you posted is fine, I had the same/similar one from Kings, it was very well made strong and sturdy. With that said just make sure that you really have a true corner to put it in. I had to get rid of the one that came with my bird because I didn't realize that I didn't really have a corner it fit in ... lol
Plus it was a bit of a pain to clean. ?..

Fargo has a corner cage, and his tail is PERFECT, isnt messed up a single bit ;)

Its not hard to clean, pretty easy!

Its ALOT bigger than just the rectangle ones...

Plus i think it actually has more places to hang toys and perches
