Ingrown Feathers??

Are ingrown feathers a thing? I’ve noticed the feathers trying to come in on Zuni’s bald little neck seem to have skin covering down half of the feather still. Some are still in the pin feather stage but one looks as if it is opened inside her skin. It almost looks like what a skin tag would on a person. A big one. This is also the one I see her pulling on with her foot the most.
What can I do to help her?

I have not personally seen a problem with an ingrown feather.

It is common for a new feather to have a sheave that covers the feather.

Commonly, as they grow in, the outer most section will become dry /crack and fall apart. The important part is to develop a feel for when the covering is ready. Hard and cracks when compressed, ready. Soft and pliable, not-ready.

I’m familiar with the pin feather coating, this is something else. It’s actually her skin. If I can get her to hold still long enough, I’ll try to get a picture.

I have not seen a case where the skin attaches and rises with the feather as it grows. That IMHO is something that should involve an Avian Medical Professional.

My feather pluck girl has some feathers that seem to grow in weird, but maybe it's because we can see them?
I guess yours could have a feather cyst??

That’s honestly what I’m thinking is that I need to bring this up to her Avian Vet.

I've never seen anything like that, perhaps an artifact of plucked follicle? Definitely something for a certified avian vet to assess! Assume this is the first time you've observed similar?

The other new feathers near bottom and to left appear normal.

This is definitely a first. I’ll be giving our vet a call to ask.
The other feathers look much better since I’ve started using a humidifier in her room. A few days ago, they had skin covering over half of the length of the pin feather. It was weird.

I just talked with the rescue owner. She said it was an actual skin tag and the vet looked at it but they decided not to remove it because it didn’t bother her. I’ll have him re-evaluate it the next time I take her for her blood work.

Unfamiliar with skin tags on parrots, good to know the vet is aware and will monitor.
