rosey bourke parakeet
im considering getting a linnie (lineolated parakeet) but im worried about dust or dander i have asthma are they very dusty birds? like cockatiels? any advice or info would really help me in my choice i already have a rosey bourke parakeet would adding this second bird add to much dander? the dander dust thing is the main thing causing me to hesitate buying one please let me know thank you all have a lovely day
 
You're in luck! Linnies don't produce a powder down, so they aren't hugely dusty birds. They do drop the usual feathers when moulting but are NOT dusty birds. :D
 
I agree that they aren't dusty birds like cockatiels. I have asthma, too. With asthma you may want to consider a room air purifier located close to the cage anyway to keep the air as clean as possible. All bird produce some "dust" especially when molting. The new feathers grow in with a thin sheath around them that dries out as the feather gets to full-size and then crumbles as the bird preens producing a white somewhat powdery substance that can easily become airborne when the bird flaps.
Their food can also produce some particulate matter that may make asthma worse. Pellets produce dust as the bird eats them and small seed hulls can become airborne allergens too especially millet spray, which is essentially a sprig of weed seeds.
