My macaw has never been a fan of toys. He has a specific type of wooden block chew toy on a chain that he will eventually destroy (takes a couple of years). I buy multiples when they go on sale. He is stocked up for a good long while. He is a fan of leather strips. He loves to untie knots. I put them all through the chains of his toys and every day they are untied. He is a man of simple taste.
Makes it very economical!
Whoever said a macaw can crunch right through a Brazil nut is nuts!
I have a fancy super heavy duty nutcracker and it takes all my strength (and a bit of cursing) to crack those darn things! It is only when they have been pre-cracked by me that he will show any interest in them. I guess I have a very delicate bird.
BTW we still have the original manzanita perches that came with his SS cage. They are 35 years old and still hanging in there. Unlike your macaw, he respects his perches!
