Parrots
Conure.
This parrot is if Latin America... Right?

I can't get in South Asia.

Which parrot is similar to caique in my region.

I don't find Alex as active , naughty and Playful as a caique.

I will appreciate your opinions.

Regards

Maybe you'll find some Conures similar to caiques in many aspects.. They can be both naughty and playful, very entertaining birds that do need lots of attention from their owners. Do you mind sharing with us your prior experience with parrots?

You will likely find Heero's energy level to increase as he gets a bit older, he is still just a baby.

That said, I agree that a small conure could be quite playful and naughty while still being quite affectionate.

I have seen caiques for sale in Hong Kong, on the Bird Street , Sundays. If this helps. I met one who was a mush-ball of Fluffy feathers ( uncharacteristic).

Here's from his post history:

From 6 April this year:

Hi all, I am Intisar from Pakistan, My son, 8 years is interested to have a parrot. I brought a pair of cocktail parrots , male 8 months , female 18 months, ( as the birds shop man told me)
but the keep fighting and male bird , though was a bit trained but suddenly started biting,
so we decided to return these to birds shop and bring one alexandrine BABY parrot.
is that ok to keep one alexandrine parrot? what should i go for ? a male alexandrine parrot or a female? which can be trained well for getting friendly and to teach talking ?

And one last question, what should I prefer??
Male or female parrot? As I will keep single parrot

i have a plenty of place including a huge cage,
now am going to have a parrot who can eat on his own, thnx and love

From 7 April this year
He then bought an unweaned 2-3 week old Alexandrine (a bird which is illegally sold in Pakistan).

Yes , but honestly speaking my son did not agree, he insisted so badly to have this baby, he thinks a baby can b more friendly by the time , so on a commitment that he will not take care of him, and only I will feed him until it is on hand feed , I got this baby ,

From 23 April, he had two posts - one for his Alexandrine being ill and one where he said the Alexandrine was not ill

When advised to ask the vet to do tests to make sure his bird was ok, he responded with the following:
I really understand band appreciate your advices and concerns.
Let me share a couple of thoughts with u all dear and respected fellows,
We are 6 people at home , we the husband wife and our 4 kids , and now we count the family of 8 members, including Heero and Tweety.
The whole family is concerned about both and specially Heero, treating him as an infant.
My elder sons call home and ask about his feed and temperature (of room)many times in a day,
I watch him a lot of times from office through a video call. Abdur Rahman the master of heeero controls every one , no shouting no loudness of tv
Etc.
And above all, before bringing the Heero and Tweety we had a long meeting with Abdur Rahman and his siblings about the rights of animals and specially the parrots and our responsibilities of taking care if them.
We all are in love of Tweety and heero , but more than that we try to take care of them well because they are creativity of Allah and we can't afford to make Allah angry with us, we are answerable if we do not care of the parrots very well.
Our Prophet Muhammad PBUH has given clear cut instructions about the rights of animals , we are even not allowed to disturb any animal while sleeping.
U just pray that Allah give us strength to take care of his creation and fulfill our responsibility about these sweet lovely parrots.

After some debate (some members mentioned religion being irrelevant to healthcare), he ultimately said:
we are going to take a second opinion tonight to another doctor, and tried to investigate and found this one much experienced specially about parrots

He also has regular updates on his birds - both the Alexandrine (Heero) and cockatiel (Tweety). Updates includes:

From 24 April:
Tweety is almost of 9 months and verry happy active runs here and there, but during the whole day he whistles are speaks just once or twice.
I have seen a lot of cocktiels in YouTube videos they are whistling singing and making a lot of noise, i wonder why not my Tweety doing the same and why I keep silent most of the time.

From 15 May:
After a member suggests looking into the bird might be sick if the bird can stink up a whole room, he responds:
I don't think Heero has got any infection or sour crop, he is very active , not dull at all,
, And yes he smells if I touch my nose to him, but by the time the smell spreads in room that is disturbing

So what is the point?? Why mentioning the history which is already there. I felt it very strange and insulting , the way u put every thing here as a cop brings history of a doubt full person?

And let me clear here that it is not illegal to purchase , sell or keep an Alex in pakistan, so do not say any thing wrong and against the fact,

It may not be illegal but it is definitely quite unethical to buy a Wild Caught Species that is rapidly declining across its range - already close to extinction in Cambodia.

And additionally it is unethical to buy an unweaned baby, even if captive bred.

From the International Journal of Science and Knowledge:
"They are critically endangered in Pakistan, especially in Punjab province (BirdLife International, 2013). This numbers are less in nature due to loss of habitat and excessive poaching its chick. Although their sale is officially banned in Pakistan but available in Lahore."

As for your 'history', some users don't have the time to read all historical posts to get a better understanding of a poster's wants and needs and experience. I was hoping to be succinct without twisting any words - a lot of things can be lost in translation, so I hoped by quoting that I could avoid misinterpreting anything. I always try to defer to the truth.

Members on this forum know that if I am in the wrong, I will not hesitate to apologise. So do let me know if I have erroneously presented anything, and I will rectify it immediately.

@Intisar After reading all the above.. I think i want to discourage you to getting either Caique or Conure. These birds are high-maintenance, require lots of attention and can easily become unbearable to the owners when not given proper care and attention - they can be moody and "bitey".
Since you already have some parrots, take your time to know their needs best, how to live with them and care for them for the next years to come. Keep in mind that both Conures and Caiques, despite their relatively small bodies do have large and strong beaks - can do a lot of mess/harm -- just something I think you should consider.

are u supposed to reply on my behalf?
He asked about my experience, how can U tell any ones else experience?
, u twisted at 2 points, i don’t know u twisted deliberately or u r not that wise and misunderstood.
Without proper knowledge u spread false , wrong and insulting information that it is illegal in Pakistan.

2nd u gave impression that I was reluctant to take bird to doctor due to religion….i condemn both , u r wrong at bothe points and I condemn ur reply on my behalf.

((Kabir (2015); International Journal of Science and Knowledge; Vol. 4, No.1)) and the author Ashraful Kabir , everything is wrong and based on wrong information. This not funny, this hilarious that you are getting information about Pakistan from another country, WHY NOT from Pakistan?

According to the govt of Pakistan, climate change department the alexandrine parrots are protected in Province Baluchistan only, rest of all Pakistan is open for this and these birds are available in all bird markets in the whole country.

according to this department import or export of all kind of birds is not allowed , if u want u need to get permission , if permission granted u can go ahead.

let me tell u a bit, I am a senior journalist, writer , tv director and political analyst here in Pakistan, so this is not possible to come with false information about Pakistan in front of me.

I came on this forum to get information, I am thankful to all of u for ur kind advices but it never means I can allow anyone to miss quote me or describe me at his own, I am here , open , not hidden , let me come myself, let me say myself about my experiences.

So what is the point?? Why mentioning the history which is already there. I felt it very strange and insulting , the way u put every thing here as a cop brings history of a doubt full person?

I don't know u LL get it or not, but we took care of the Alex like a quick professional and devoted nurse, since April 6th, still he is on hand feed, just a little eat himself,

The Tweety is with us too, a very naughty and Playful Cocktiel,
The idea of having a parrot was to have a playful fun companion for my young kids,
Yesterday nails of Alex almost injured my daughter's arm skin while sitting there,
And he has become so big n heavy , yet he is just 2 months old,
So the idea I felt ok is to bring a caique, but in my region a caique is not available,
The conure is a good alternate of a caique,
But still am researching which parrot is more friendly n playfully which can't harm the kids like Alex,
I don't want to repeat of getting a parrot without research now as I did on Alex time.
Hope u all get it,
I am clear, convinced and satisfy on my decision,
Every one who decides or does any thing it is always according to his circumstances and atmosphere so do not consider me as birds are being neglected here. Regards

Hello Intisar first of all i need to say that i dont think charmedbyekkie needed to harm with his post that being said all i want to say to you we have the same religion and i dont really like to bring that up on a forum like this but yes you are right about what you said about how we need to treat animals but you must also know they are not toys we cannot buy and bring back them as if it has no soul all i want to say to you dont buy any animals if you are not 100 percent sure they will live a happy live and not because they look cute.

You can't be sure that either Caique or any Conure will be friendly towards your kids. All, even tame birds can become teritorrial or aggresive in certain circumstances. Birds prior their puberty will behave like kids - friendly, not aggresive. But once hit maturity (around 2years for these species) they may become more aggresive, and exhibit some "ugly" hormonal behaviour. So there is no warranty that if you pick this or that species, you'll get an expected behavior. Well-behaved bird is something you must pay for a lot of time, attention, interaction and experience. Not to mention, proper care and environment. That's lots of variables. Don't let the "cuddly photos" fool you, my beloved Cytrynka will sometimes try to attack some family members if she's not in mood.
