Salsa = Severe Macaw
Frank = CAG
Izzy = Blue and Gold
and advice from EVERYONE here....some of you i have been PM'ing about this but i guess the more the merrier right?

Three weeks ago i adopted Salsa, a sever macaw. I went FULL FORCE ahead with my heart on my sleeve and my brain in my back pocket.

I should have known something was up when i asked if i should bring a carrier with me and she said YES (mind you i had the adoption application in hand i did NOT send it in prior to my visit date) I had assumed i would have to meet the birds first, let her check my application and call my references, do a home check and on and on and on....well long story short, i went to look at a specific bird (grrrrrrrrr) and he wasn't too wild about me, he bit me and drew blood right off the bat....however i took my time and met most of the other birds, snuggled with U2 and got bit by her too, and then found a grey who had his whole chest plucked....He climbed up on me and got all cozy and then he KISSED ME FULL ON THE LIPS....i asked a lot about him, he was SOO COOL.... She said he was an owner surrended just came in last week (he was with a lot of birds in that room including the one i came home with) and then she showed me a three ring binder FULL of all of his vet records, photos from baby on up, a list of words and phrases etc. The owner was too ill to care for him anymore :-( She said i could take both home (initially when i contacted her about salsa, she said he should be in a single bird home) for a "discount" well it ends up i brought home the severe because i thought he'd be harder to place, and knowing that as sweet as Franki was he'd go out the door in a hurry...I left an extra $50 there for Franki's new owner and left with Salsa...I cried for Franki on the way home....AND NOW three weeks later, he's STILL THERE...my heart is saying GO GET THAT BIRD....my head is saying WAKE UP....

i would LOVE to hear ANY and ALL INPUT here:grey::confused:

oh god, get frankie too! i had the exact same thing, mossy and willow were together in the same house but not recommended to be housed together so i just took mossy. willow was still there when i went back another day and she was miserable, i let my heart rule and took her home. i'm so glad i did, as you might have seen from my photos/videos they are best mates. of course your circumstances may be different, i work from home and with my babies all day. if you have the time/money i say go for it. like i said i know how you feel, i was awake for nights worrying about willow stuck there. let me know what you decide and good luck xxxx

Hi Karrie, I know you have kids and horses in addition to Salsa, so I'm sure that takes some time out of your day, I see no problem with adopting another fid (fid=feathered kid) as long as you have the time to spend with him/her, in that I mean personal interaction time, once you get in a routine, feeding and cleaning for multiple birds doesnt take that much more time or effort, just reading your post it seems as though your hesitant to adopt another bird, maybe sitting down and weighing the pros and cons of why your struggling with that decision and talking to the other members of the family on their feelings may help, I truely wish you the best of luck on whatever decision you make :)

Thanks guys...Bobby, my children are grown and do not live here, my step kids are only here every other weekend and my husband is out of town all week sometimes weeks at a time...SOOOO, on the time and spending time with my animals, um...well that's about ALL i do all day ;-) i work at home so am here all day long....the getting another one is not the problem at ALL it's the going with my head or my heart that is the problem ;-) some day I WILL get a grey......lol i knew i always wanted a couple birds and now that i am old and life is set...well....it could be time

The only time I have had regrets about birds is when I followed my head instead of my heart, sometimes you just know when somethings right, if there are valid reasons why you may be having second thoughts then maybe now isn't the right time............just follow your heart ;)

My head and my heart are always in an argument over getting another bird besides Rosie. My heart wants one and my head says no. In the end when one leads with their heart and does not listen to what your brain says ...........................TROUBLE. So I guess I disagree with you both. But that is what makes the world go around. We all approach decisions differently. good luck with one or both birds.
