How much did you pay for your zon

Oh, I wasn't responding to you specifically, I just figured if someone else is thinking about a 'zon and happens to read this thread, it'd be good information - I was following the lead of Kiwibird! :)

Also - the Golden Cockatoo is great. The people there have always been really nice to me and they're all big bird owners as well. I feel very lucky to live so close!

Ok I'm bumping this thread up as there are several new zon owners that have joined the forums the past week or two so lets hear how much you payed for your zon. :)

My rescued 30-yr old BFA was ... free. The daughter of the original owner was happy to know the bird was in a loving forever home, and she no longer had to feel guilty over the fate of her parents' bird. Now, the vet bills, perches, and toys will amount to something...

I paid $780 for Ville (DYHA), normal price in Sweden is around $1430

In 1978, I paid $250 for my Orange Wing Amazon. She was about 1 1/2 years old at the time. The DYH was a gift this past May.

I think I have gotten my money's worth on the OWA.

That's really cheap for a OW was she bought from a breeder or another home? And to get a double yellow as a gift must have been so exciting.

The OWA came from a pet store. In those days, they were imported.

The DYH belonged to someone who didn't have the time for her. We have an open adoption. She visits her bird whenever she wants. The DYH is very happy here with dogs, cats and the OWA to play with. She never wants to go back to her lonely life. She is very spoiled here. (Freezing cherries for her so she can have them during the winter. She loves them.)
The DYH is very calm but needs some training. I am up to being able to kiss her on the top of her head and have her climb on my hand.

Since the DYH has been here, she is getting more yellow feathers on her head. Her owner fed her well but I am feeding her a lot of different foods.
I grew up with a DYH so I always wanted one of my own. Very happy she is here.

Well looking at your picture your doing a great job with them both and its nice that you let the last owner come and visit I would have loved a zon when I was a young'un but hey I'm 24 now and I have my blue front.

I paid 350.00 for my sweet Rocky and her cage from an ad on craigslist. I have since gotten to know the previous owner and we talk daily on the phone or on facebook. She likes to hear updates on Rocky and is concerned about her well being. She is a pit bull rescuer so she just felt awful when she had to rehome the bird. She loves the fact that her bird went to someone who is also a lover of all animals and a rescuer.

I payed 500 for jinx he will be 15 weeks old on Friday in a few years time I'm thinking of adding a tres marias amazon aswell I'm prepared to pay upto £2000 for one of these rare zons.

I got my baby BFA Yoshi 2 weeks ago and paid 695 for him. But that included food, harness, toys and vitamins.

Hi all! New here and today am picking up my 6yr DYH Jake was hand fed as a baby and only one owner til now. They haven't had time for him in the last year so he will need some work. I paid $500 for him and cage but believe me that is cheap. I have been searching for a baby to raise myself but nothing around here and with shipping etc would have been well over $1000 and that doesn't count a cage. We live in TX

I would love to buy a zon but I cant afford to buy one. They cost about $5,500. Last time I checked. :p

Ash,

Wow $5,500! That's extremely high. I paid $1200 for mine in south Texas. Blue Fronted and Double Yellow Heads typically are the more expensive ones. I wouldn't pay more than 1400-1500 for one.

I payed $790 for Ville, a DYHA. The normal price in Sweden is around $1400
