Now I feel ultra fortunate to have an avian vet about 10 minutes from my house. I'm hoping that you may find one somewhere! That must be so scary. Search online for listings, sometimes we have to go that extra mile for our feathered friends. A vet I met at our parrot store says bring them for checkups once every year. That's not too bad in my opinion. It may cost you a bit, but you're keeping your bird healthy.
I'm So0o0o glad that you switched your bird to fruits and veggies. Try a good pellet diet too, if you can find some. I have Lafaber's pellet food. The vet at the store said they should be on a 70 to 30% ratio diet. 70 being pellets, 30% being fruits and veggies.
Wrnts has been on the pellet diet for years, but only recently I introduced dried fruit. He doesn't seem to want to touch it much, but I sneak a peek of him rummaging for raisins every once in a while.
Good luck with your birdie and I wish all the luck to you.
