Indian ring neck
Hi, I became a member to post this because I live very far away from any emergency pet vets and especially Avian emergency vets. It seems Rio has chewed a glow stick and had a small a taste but he stinks of it so I’m unsure of how much he has had! I’ve bathed him to try and remove any liquid that may be on him! He isnt vomiting or gagging. But the bath seemed to have stressed him out.

If I were you I would either call a poison control hotline (i did that when my cockatoo chewed an inkpen and got blue ink all over his face and in his mouth) OR go online and Google Just Answer, a expert advice service. Submit your question for an avian veterinarian. It costs about $30 and an avian vet will call you and give you advice. You will be given the vet's credentials. I've done this a few times when I had pressing questions and my avian vet was unavailable.

Thank you! I’ve called many vets within finding the glow stick and none have answered. So I will try this. Rio is up this morning and happily eating.

I like Donna's advice. Good luck. I'm glad you're here.

*Update*

I’ve called vets around and I’ll have to make a trip to Adelaide. He’s currently very quiet and sleepy. But still eating. Pooping and preening due to his very big molt. I am trying to organise a car for tomorrow as mine is being fixed. Fingers crossed

I’m so very worried. 💔
Photo is Rio right now

I will! I’m hoping for the best right now. He keeps sleeping and I can’t get in anywhere 😭

Did you Google "glow sticks toxcicity pets" It gives some information. There's a pet poison helpline website. And you can call them for help. It says they are low toxicity to birds. It's amazing what you can find online.

I did that too. But they also said on another website that it can still affect them. And birds are soooo tricky to catch illness

Hello everyone! Date on Rio! He’s been prescribed medication! And should be fine! The vet was very impressed with the help I received in here and with my cheeky spoilt parrot! Thank you all for helping!

I'm do happy to hear this! I hate it when our beloved birds are sick. Thank God you found a good bird vet. What did he say about Rio? Glow stick poisoning?
