Ok so lets start off with i have a gcc and an irn, they are in the same cage i got them like this from another family! The gcc has always been a bit difficult to read , he will literally rub himself on me when he wants a tickle but he also changes his mind very quickly and bites, i dont know why he does this when it was his choice to be rubbed , i mean he is doing all the action not me i just keep my hand still while he moves back and forth and he still bites, anyone know why or how to get him to stop?? im overwhelmed with all the different advice I've looked up, what actually works??
Also today for the first time my IRN bit me, he has never done this to me not even the first few weeks in our home. Im not really sure why he did this maybe because he saw me discipline the gcc?? By discipline i just say thats not nice and put them him in the cage .When my Irn bit me i was caught off guard and did yelp a bit so he flew to his cage top, i immediately pick him up getting bitten for the 2nd time and put him in the cage locking them both up!! I feel almost insulted that my irn bit me i thought we were bonding so well he has started to mimic me, he comes to me willingly, i never force things on him, i just dont get it :( , any ideas , suggestions and tips are welcome thnx for reading :)

All birds bite and nip--even the best behaved, so don't take it personally. Biting and nipping are a part of a parrot's natural behaviors can cannot be completely eliminated. I have a very tame GCC, but she bites every now and then for no apparent reason. I just put her back in her cage when that happens--in a few minutes I take her back out. Instead of thinking that "discipline" will cure the biting/nipping, I would focus on preventing it in the first place. You've learned, for example, that your GCC is more likely to bite after lengthy cuddling/scratching, so scratch her for just ten seconds or so and then stop. Let the birds hang out with you without unnecessary touching. Help them to feel safe and secure by paying attention to what might threaten them--for example, any parrot is going to feel threatened if you hold your hand over its head. Learn to read their body language so you can see if they are stimulated or scared. For example, I think IRN's tend to pin their eyes when excited. Those would be times to keep your hands to yourself.

Before you feel too insulted, those bites may just be I-love-you-thiiiiiss-CHOMP-much bites! ^.^

Don't be offended by getting bit, it happens. Both my birds are very bonded with me, and I have been bitten by both of them.:30: it just made me more aware of what I was doing just before it happened.

You should see what they do to each other in the wild! Congratulations, you're a flock member :)

How old is your GCC? Mine just turned 2 last month and he does the same. Sometimes he even breaks the skin. I was told that he could be hormonal as 2 can be the magic # for little conures. I wish I could help but I feel your pain.

Thnx you all so much , I love this forum everyone is so helpful and caring it's great!! To answer some of ur questions I believe both the birds are about 4 yrs old or will be in September , I only have a hatch cert for the Indian ring neck but the previous owners said they got them from another home together so at 4 yrs old it seems they have already been through a lot , poor buggers :( , I will be their final home even if they bite!! My gcc is actually a yellow sided gcc, he is very funny huge personality and funny enough he love to be cocooned in my hands that's the only time I don't get bitten! Weird right.
The ringneck however doesn't even let me tickle his head but he loves kisses and talking right to my mouth so I can smell his breath lol.
Would anyone suggest separating them ? They don't always get along my gcc seems to be pretty territorial and often attacks the ringneck when in the cage making him scream something awful, and when thy are both on me the ringneck seems jealous and bites the gcc, lol I guess they both dish it out but would they be better in their own cages with just some out of cage play time together everyday ??
