Hello everyone, new member here!

I'm Jackie, 28, from Iowa. I currently own a tame mated pair of cockatiels, Boo and Peach, (5 and 4) but I've owned a Jenday conure and other cockatiels in the past. Right now I also own a Doberman Pinscher, 2 ragdoll cats and a tank full of fish. It's a bit of a zoo in my house, but I love all my furry/feathered/finned kids :) They're my life. No actual kids yet. I like to joke with my husband that we're raising our practice litter of 'kids' first, ha!

One of my dreams has always been to breed birds and experience the miracle of life and this spring the cockatiels laid eggs and had a clutch of 4 babies. They had had one clutch before I got them.

I let the parents raise and feed the babies but handled the babies daily. They got very used to people and the parents were great at sitting and feeding them all. They didn't even mind me handling the babies. There was a runt that was picked on (mom was pulling its feathers out, poor guy) so I had to pull and handfeed him. He weaned just fine though, took to formula like a champ, and I sold all the babies to good, loving homes! It was an amazing, beautiful experience.

I'm including a few pictures of them and their babies -- they had quite the variety in this clutch!

While I love cockatiels, I am truly fascinated by Moluccan Cockatoos and hybrid Macaws (specifically Harlequins, Shamrocks, Camelots). They are my dream birds!

Nice to meet you all :) :yellow1::white1:

Welcome to the Parrot Forums!

Please take the time to read and be part of: Cockatiels and Breeding /Raising Parrots Forums, since they are clearly part of your interests. That does not mean that the other Forums will not grab your attention, there is always something going on someplace in the Parrot Forums.

Breeding and Raising young parrots in not my area of deep knowledge. For what little I know of mid -larger Parrot Breeding, it is far more involved than with the smaller Parrots. Timelines are longer, costs are higher, etc... To that end, you will likely want to communicate as part of that Forum to get greater knowledge.

Again, Welcome to the Parrot Forums!!!

Thank you for the advice!! I will definitely check those ones out. I don't plan to breed them again anytime soon but I definitely learned A LOT from it.

Well hello there, from Ohio!

Welcome! Lots of bird-lovers here to help you out. While you're having a look around, you can take any issue or topic which interests you, use the Search Tab and then read about it. It's a really good engine. Glad you found us!

A hearty welcome to you. I'm a bit of an observer here. My wife has a parrot, so I am a bystander, somewhat, but I will tell you that, of the parrots I have observed and "met", cockatiels (and budgies) are great little champs. Maybe a bit more genetically domesticated through all the generations of breeding (?) than some of the more exotic species. They seem to make such wonderful companions. I wouldn't be surprised if, eventually, you find all the parrot-ness you need, with just your 'tiels. I would honestly (probably) have one if it weren't for His Majesty the Homicidal/Avicidal Maniac Genghis Khan the Executioner Rider-of-the-Valkyrie Rickeybird.
Thanks for those photos.
More!
