Hello and a couple of questions

Hi, my partner found a Cockatiel a few weeks ago or more a Cockatiel found him lol, we have put posters up at local vet clinics, posts on Facebook lost and found pages and on Parrot alert aswell as looking out for missing posts to no avail.
I was able to make a makeshift cage out of a rabbit/guinea pig cage that we had but am going to buy a proper cage in the next few days, although we will of course reunite it with the rightful owner of found, if not we will happily give it a loving home. I have found a cage which seems perfect I just want to make sure it will be big enough, what do you think?
This is it here, there is one slightly larger but it sits lower to the ground and as we have cats it would be better to have it higher

I am also trying to work out of it's male or female, it is a pied Pearl which I believe an make it hard to tell by appearance. I have read that females tend to be quieter, this one is usually pretty quiet until its not happy about something such as when it has had enough of being in the cage or it gets left alone in the room then it will screech like there's no tomorrow lol

I forgot to add it spends a good 50%, at least, of the day time between 9am - 6 pm outside of the cage

Congratulations on your latest family member! You will need to be hyper-vigilant with your cats, they cannot help themselves with those long ingrained predatory instincts no matter what a lazy fluffball they may appear to be!

Easiest way to pick male from female is to have a look at the colouring on the underside of the tail feathers. Solid colour indicates a male, a stippled effect in the colour means a female. Even in an albino the stippling would still be visible although you’d have to hold the feathers up to the light to see it.

Awwww that’s so sweet. I’ve had two female cockatiels and they were both sweethearts although Twinkle had plenty of sass and attitude to go with it! My current boy Fang, well he’s a bit “special”

If you do decide to find the cockatiel a new home.. I may be interested as I’d love to get my new cockatiel Percy a friend but looking for a rescue. I’m 2.5hrs away from Melbourne! Outside of Ballarat
