Lovebird
Hi,

I got my 1st lovebird baby 5wks old about a week ago. His name is Opie. We're starting the weaning process. Opie eats seed happily but he still gets 3 feeds daily. After feeding he climbs up to my shoulder right against my neck and makes himself comfy. I'm just wondering if he's cuddling with me or afraid and hiding to feel safe. During the day I take him out to bond. He comes right to me. Doesn't try hiding or anything. I think he's just a happy cuddly guy. But if this is fear based I'd like to get some advice to help him since I've only had him such a short period of time.

I just just LOVE baby birds! I seriously doubt Opie's afraid. I have a 10 week old budgie, Joey, that I handraised from hatching. I'm weaning her right now. Hand raised birds take longer to wean than parent raised, probably because they don't have role models to learn from. Don't rush the process.
Opie's cuddly behavior is totally normal and so much fun. My baby Joey does the same thing.
You and Opie have a wonderful bond that will last. Opie will become more independent as he matures and may test your patience, but it's very unlikely that he will ever be scared of you. Enjoy these baby days! They're truly precious.

I think you're doing it right! You're caring, inquiring, and willing to reach out!
