today is July 1st, and is our wonderful country 146th birthday.:54::54:

How old is your country, and when is it's birthday??

You know, it's funny, this morning i was reading on Wiki about "Independence Day" celebrations in the US. We all celebrate on the fourth of July but the first "Independence" celebration was supposedly July 2 and the adoption of the Delcaration may not have been for another month, until August.

I am glad that i remember our "bi-centennial" celebration from my childhood (i was 5 in 1976). I remember my parents taking us to the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia as a day trip.

Wow...I learned something new today. Also, did you see in the wiki article that the true "original" Declaration of Independence was lost and that the one on display in DC is a signed copy? Anyway, happy Canada-day to our neighbors to the north!

As a child we spent many of our summer vacations in the U.S., those are the best memories :)

by the way, what are the standard celebrations for Canada Day? Any unique quirks or kind of the standard summer celebration (like in the US with our Independence Day BBQs and fireworks and wearing the colors of the flag)? When i was little i remember my parents giving us sparklers to light and play in the yard. Looked forward to it every year.
