Blue and Gold Macaw
Greetings friends! I've had my blue and gold macaw for about a year. Her name is Roxanne. She's about 3 now and she was a personal rescue. I found her on Craigslist for just $900. When I went to the home in February of 2017, she was in a tiny garage with a tiny space heater. The previous owner was feeding her cat food! Her cage was apart in the corner and she was on a tiny little 8-12 inch perch. She was missing all the feathers on the back of her head, many of her wing feathers were missing, and her tail was near non-existent! She was attacked by the woman's 20yr old male blue and gold. When I first brought her home, she was so hostile I could barely feed her without being lunged at, hissed at, and a few times bitten. In about a week, she was letting me pet her and love her. Today she is a free roam, very very happy girl. She adores my boyfriend and I and is a very happy member of the family. She had almost all her feathers back and is almost done molting now. Her favorite things are rolling on her back to play, and sharing fresh fruit smoothies(in small amounts) and lightly steamed veggies with us. :) Despite being only 22 myself and my boyfriend being 25 (we are pretty young parrot parents) we are a very happy and well cared for family.:blue1::57:

We welcome you with open arms!! Congratulations for having the empathy and courage to rescue Roxanne! An abused macaw can require a near lifetime of work to properly socialize. I hope you share your techniques as an inspiration to all who read your story!

Welcome and thank you for taking in this girl who sounds like she had a rough start! It sounds like you’ve changed her life, and I hope you’ll share pictures of Roxanne. So glad you are here :)

Thank you for rescuing this darling.

What a wonderful story.

The only thing that could make it better would be pictures of
...ROXXXXXXXANNE! (with a nod to Sting)
